what percentage equals asian-american?

ok so I know this must be somewhere else but I could not find it! I am 25% asian, so would this count? I'm talking about LACs mainly, where they NEED diversity. I've always considered myself asian american, though. And plus people get the Native American advantage with like 15%!

thanks

The number is cited is usually 1/8th.

It counts, but except at unknown LACs in the remote South, why would you want it too? Asians long ago found the top 10 LACs even if the stereotype still prefers HYPS.

from my time on CC, i've learned that being asian will never help.

well some schools in the northeast promote diversity through open houses
i mean i have a friend who is getting paid trips to three colleges because she is Indian (and a good student). i unlike most asian kids have NO interest in ivy leagues or stanford (i know it's odd, but it's good too).

I dunno...10% asian at Wesleyan and 6% asian at Colgate...

Yes. That would "count". You could certainly check the Asian American box in good conscience.

Whether that would help, hurt, or be neutral in admissions really depends on the specific school. You can find LACs that would fall into each of the three categories, IMO.

As you assemble your college list, you might want to jot down the percentage of Asian American students at each school. That number varies considerably for lots of different reasons.

thanks for the replies, a few of the schools i'm applying to actually have minority (asians included) recruitment open houses, thus i think they want any bit of diversity
