I am currently a sophomore who took the standard Wednesday administration of the PSAT.
I got a 1380. My math score was 710, and my Reading/Writing score was 670.
On the 0-38 scale, I got 35 in reading, 32 in writing and language, and 35.5 in math. My more problematic subscores are 11 for standard english conventions and 12 for passport to advanced math. Naturally, I am trying to improve my score to the greatest extent I can. What book(s) do you all think would best suit my needs?
Have you looked at the Kahn Academy SAT prep?
First off, welcome to the almost 1400 PSAT club! 1390 here haha. A 1380 is a really good score for sophomores - 99th percentile!
Khan Academy is great, seconding that. I personally am a lot stronger in EBRW than math, so we’re kind of opposites, but I’d recommend Khan for math especially. I’ve heard Erica Meltzer’s books are great for EBRW so I’d highly recommend them, she has a question of the day on her website (the critical reader) that I use too. I took the SAT practice test 1 and actually brought my score up by 100 points from the PSAT, so just keep in mind that you haven’t hit your full potential yet, and you’ll improve a lot by just becoming more familiar with the test. What math class are you taking? If you haven’t taken/aren’t taking Algebra 2, you can expect your Passport score to be a bit lower - you just haven’t learned the material yet. Khan Academy is really good for filling in content gaps.
For a simple but comprehensive review of grammar rules, look here - https://thecriticalreader.com/complete-sat-grammar-rules/. Also you can always PM me if you need help - Writing is my best section and I got a perfect subscore on standard english conventions. Anyway, let me know if you hear about any really good SAT/ACT math books, I’m actually looking for one myself. Good luck!
