What r u guys doing now?

IZZY! I am sooo happy that you are going to Beloit next year... ME TOO!!!!

i cant wait to meet you in person!

Marta

I, for one, am absolutely thrilled that Izzy and Marta will be joining my daughter. In fact, Ama already thinks of you both as friends and just about jumped out of the car when I told her Izzy had decided - she's already planning on hanging out with you guys the first night there! :)

Kingsrock, I think one main difference between Kalmazoo and Beloit is that Beloit has a much more stable social life --- not as many students coming and going from off campus study as at K'zoo so relationships tend to be a little less changeable. On the other hand, Beloit is not as experiential as K'zoo, and is perhaps a little less career focused. I think they're both great schools, so your daughter will be fine with whatever she chooses.

i'm so excited...my deposit is in the mail, so its finally FINAL! yay...
me+izzy+ama+everyone else= FUN TIMES AT BELOIT

Marta! WOOOHOOO!! We're going to have so much fun the first week or so of New Student Days. Then we'll continue havin' fun the rest of the four years... sighs Class of 2010!

We're down to the final decisions here...my S is trying to choose between Beloit and Sarah Lawrence College. He has decided that he wants to major in theatre/drama and is starting to think that Sarah Lawrence will offer him not only many more performance opportunities but also easy access to NYC. He also thinks that the international options, particularly studying in London, are stronger from Sarah Lawrence.

But Beloit is hanging on...he has loved it from his first visit and he concedes that he'll have a "more normal" college experience there. He understands that Sarah Lawrence is dramatically more expensive than Beloit (he has an Eaton Scholarship) and those higher costs will affect his life for years to come.

Any thoughts, future Beloiters?

I'm biased.

I haven't set foot on Beloit, but I think the people are awesome. We mayn't be set in a city (or near one) where Broadway light shines, but we have Chicago nearby. :)

He has to come to Beloit. clears throat Or he doesn't have to, but it would be purely awesome if he did. Sides, if he wants a Master's in Theatre/drama, extra money would help.

I found that I have made my decision much early....about April.10th, I decided to Beloit, and I have to refuse the offers from other colleges which are also very nice I think, Lawrence U, Luther College, Manchester College, Fairleigh Dickinson U. I really went through quite a hard time to reach the finals. However, Beloit seems to have a mysterious attraction to me,though among all the colleges I got admitted, Beloit is not the one give me most aid and it is not the one that has the top ranking.

BUT I just chose it!!!!breathing LOVING BELOIT!!!

As an intl, now I am preparing for my visa and hope to get pass ASAP!!!

Beloit didn't give me the biggest loan/isn't cheapest to attend, but yeah, it's just got that je ne sais quoi...

My mama gave me a packet of how to apply for a visa at the American embassy here and apparently I have to bring expired passports that show previous travel to the US. (NY, 1-3 yrs old.) However...that passport has already been taken back by my home gov't. I don't get that requirement. MEEEEEEH!!!!

I'm so nervous! And how do we "show" that we would go back to our home country after we complete our UG education. I mean, unless we go to grad school, we can't stay in the US (except for one extra year, I think?) so isn't saying that we're going to go back home enough?

I don't know. I am also rather nervous about my visa. Sometimes it seems that it's quite faint to speak out what specific reason are somebody get rejected by VO

Latern, your S is asking the right questions and thinking the right thoughts. No wrong answers, just go with his heart.

Dear Lantern,

My daughter, also interested in majoring in Theatre and/or English, was interested in Sarah Lawrence until we found out how expensive it was and that the school offers no merit aid. To me (and to her) the huge price difference (especially after considering the merit aid Beloit offers) was not worth it. They are both excellent schools, and your son will get an excellent education at either one. But that extra debt can make a huge difference when deciding what one can do after college (an entry-level relatively low paying job in theater or graduate school, for example).

Chicago is not so far from Beloit, its theatre district gets rave reviews, and the international opportunities I do not believe are vastly different between the two schools.

I speak from the bias of my daughter having chosen Beloit (and having chosen not to apply to SL because of the high cost), but I honestly believe that if your son loves Beloit, he can choose it without regret.

i'm going too =)

what FYI are you doing?

i think i signed up for adapting and adopting. but to be honest i really don;t remember, i did it online a few weeks ago and i was tired. anyways, nice to 'meet' you, and i'll see you in august!

-Marta

PS: where are you from?

i'm from new york city; you?

also- you can sign up online? how? i'll look at their website now, but i've found it pretty unhelpful other than for the strict basics.

thanks!

-kim

Hi!
if u go to the beloit admitted students website you can sign up there. in ur acceptance packet there are directions on how to get there on a little post card looking thing.
im from san diego.

-Marta

Kim, my first choice was "Borders and Boundaries" I can't remember in what order my next two were in - they be "Adapting and Adopting" and "Who's the Strange Here" and my fourth may've been "Freaks and Geeks" or "Psychology of Creativity"...

I don't think they do give much description of the courses besides what's in the booklet. But more the mysterious, the cooler!

(So weird both of you are 7 and 10 hours behind me..)

My S, after a wonderful visit last week, decided to attend Sarah Lawrence College this fall rather than Beloit. It was a very difficult decision for him because he has good friends at Beloit....ultimately, he decided that his interest in theatre pulled him to New York City. Good luck to all class of 2010 Beloiters. I have enjoyed reading and participating in this board.

My daughter too got pulled elsewhere because of a particular program. She was torn; Beloit was so warm and welcoming. Good luck to you all who are going to attend, you have chosen well.

lantern and merepoule, best of luck to your son and daughter, respectively! If Beloit accepted them, they must be wonderful kids! :p :D

Congtats to all of you who will be attending Beloit in the fall. My daighter has her heart set on it for fall of 2007. She measures every other college we visit against Beloit, and so far (10 schools) Beloit always wins. She just felt that she fit in better there than elsewhere. She will spend this summer working on essays and will apply EA early in Fall. Her dad and I have a set amount we will/can provide for her so the final decision may come down to which school offers the best aid package, but I do hope we can send her where she most wants to attend. From the postings I think she would like all of you! She is artsy, unique in thought and fashion (and hair color!), very bright and committed to things that interest her, a seeker, liberal and compassionate, and a music junkie. I agree with her that Beloit seems her best fit, and hope you feel the same way for yourselves this fall!
