What reasons would my tution grant be taken away for?

What school is this? I hope it’s not a for profit and / or online school?

Yes it is correct. My mother does not work and does not receive child support or spousal assistance because my father is on disability.

My parents are in their early sixties. I’m not sure how my mother is able to live off of no income. She may have money somewhere else I am unaware of.

I received only 2880 for the pell grant for the full year. (1440 per semester)

I was also granted a tuition grant of 2,272 for the full year (1,136 per semester) totalling my grant aid to 5,152.

The tuition grant is no longer in my award package though for some reason which I need to find out.

It’s a state school in New Jersey

Is the tuition grant from NJ state? Was it dependent on GPA?

You did not get the full Pell grant, that’s why people are wondering if your mom had income.

I believe the tuition grant is from the college.

My mother did not make any income I know that for a fact. I wonder why I did not receive the full pell grant. There must be something in her finances I am unaware of.

Kind of frustrating because my one friend who has two working parents filled her fasfa under her dad who owns his own company but received “no income” and she was awarded the full pell grant. Such is life.

Okay everyone. The problem is solved and I’m writing this in case any students come across something similar in the future.

I called the financial aid office today and finally reached someone. I was told that it was just an error and they had to take off everyone’s tuition grant to fix something and that the grant is still there will be back in the package when everything is fixed.

Thanks for all the help and questions.

Hooray! Thanks for updating.

But, please look into why your FAFSA is not zero. Perhaps your mom reported retirement savings as an asset or hone equity as an asset when she should not have. Did you get full Pell in previous years or are you a freshman?

I am a transfer student from a cc so I did not take out loans my first two years.

According to my mom and what I saw on my sars report while my mom didn’t receive an actual income she does have a somewhat large sum of money in an account to pay for bills and such, and had a small gross income from interest off investments. She said this is most likely why I did not receive the full pell grant.

So no FAFSA in prior years? You paid for CC out of pocket rather than file to see if you could get free money?

Yeah, with the help of my father I paid out of pocket with an installment plan. I honestly didn’t think I could get free money to go to cc since its only 2 grand a semester. I never really thought about it.

Would have filling fasfa the first two years have had any effect on this year’s filling had I done it?

Filing previously wouldn’t have affected this year’s filing.
