What s a good major to pair with foreign langugaes?

Major: Romance Languages(Spanish/French) Minor: Chinese or Japanese
On the side: Self-teaching Portuguese

I want to double major with a minor too

I was thinking, Archeology maybe...?I have no idea...I hate math, science is ok, more bio, not chem or physics. I love languages...but linguisics doesn/t appeal to me...?

Anyone dare to make linguistics a possible option for me? Any ideas? I was going to do international relations or global studies but it seems to clique and won't make me have any actual abilities like a science major would you know?

what about environmental science?

What majors have good pay that would be good for me? I want to live/work abroad in many countries

Classics. I love foreign languages and that’s what I plan on majoring in. Your language learning will come in handy with the Latin and Greek and some Romance Languages since Latin is the basis for those languages. Plus, it includes archaeology a lot of the time

what if Classics don’t interest me?

I majored in economics, focusing on latin america with a minor in spanish.

thanks, that’s a good idea, but what is your career/job? Or, what internships have you had? Is it good pay? Is it enjoyable? Is the demmand of this major growing?

If classics don’t interest you, then do linguistics.

Bump!!!

Business seems an obvious suggestion. Much more marketable than something like classics, and it goes well with languages.

Public health and/or nursing would be useful as well, especially for those wanting to work overseas for things like WHO or the Peace Corps.

You probably don’t want to hear this, but being multi-lingual is only impressive to Americans. Most well-educated people in other parts of the world are polyglot.

Simply speaking even more languages will not land you a high-paying job abroad, UNLESS you can pair it with something technical, like finance, economics or engineering-- the high pay stems from performing a difficult discipline where local expertise does not exist.

The diplomatic corps and NGO’s only pay middling amounts.

bumpie!!!

daughter has a Econ and French double major. It has worked well for her. Did a summer internship at a business-school in France. The majors in two different areas have maintained her level of interest in college and kept the experience fresh and diverse. She could have gone the other route of four years of an undergraduate business program at two different colleges, but chose a four year liberal arts education instead. It’s really personal preference, but I think she felt four years of virtually nothing but business classes and the same cohort of classmates would not be the undergrad experience she wanted. She has however, loved the few business classes she has been allowed to take (B-School kids get first crack). The fluency in French is also an ongoing asset.

thanks- that’s interesting, I would choose language over business any day
