"What SAT prep book should I get?" SAT book reviews

Another question: is Gruber's really good in terms of the practice tests, or the explanations, or both? The reason I'm asking is I'm wondering if I can just get it from the library, or do I need the practice tests? (I'm having to buy a lot of books soon, and concerned slightly about money.)

Help, please! :)

So, I'm currently averaging between 2200 - 2300 on practice tests. I've already read through PR's Cracking the SAT, done 4 of PR's 11 Practice Tests, done 2 of CB's BB practice tests, and currently have the Barron's 2400 book. I just ordered the two volumes of Direct Hits on Amazon.

I think I'm good on math; I've gotten 3 800's on math so far. So what other books would you book experts recommend for me? Or do you think my current books are enough? If I need more books, I think they'll mostly have to focus on CR and writing, since I do worse on those than on math.

man how could you got that 800's?

For advice, I use CB plus 8 test, and PR. For practice, I buy Barron's 2400, PR 11 practice test, Kaplan's 12 PT, and McGraw Hill's 12 PT.

^ I never hear about McGraw Hill's. Any more details on that?

I actually have a mcgraw hill for cr. It seems a bit basic to me but Im trying it.

I just read the Grammatix strategy for CR -- seems like common sense to me. Anybody else have that notion?

I dont like its strategy too much. It is like common sense a bit, but it also doesn't work for so many CR questions that come up. The one passage he did pick to work on conveniently fitted what he was saying. im checking out his writing too but it seems to not be helping

can someone tell me about the Nova? How is it for the Math and the CR section and wht are its strength and weaknesses?

I have the Kaplan SAT Math Workbook and the SAT Math 800 book, are those good combos for the SAT?

Also I have the big blue book and the Princeton Review books (cracking the SAT and the one with 11 practice test).

My writing scores are in the 650s, reading is about 640 and math is unfortunately a 560.

I need help on the math section, should i get Gruber’s complete, or Gruber’s complete math workbook?

Should I get The Official SAT Study Guide First edition, Second edition or both?

how’s mcgraw hill 2009/2010? I heard its really rigorous on the math but it helps improve it like crazy…

I bought Barron’s 2400. IT WAS TERRIBLE!. Which is quite surprising because I really liked ACT 36, but the SAT book was a lot harder than the actual test, which was pointless.

What would be the best maths book? My maths is not in its prime, although not the abysmal … what would be the best ? I keep hearing about Grubers …

How is the peterson book? I’m taking it right now and it seems really hard- any opinions?

The college board 2nd edition has all the first edition test… plus two extra. There’s really no point in buying both.

Maximum sat is excellent for the math section. I am poor at math, very poor and it has really helped me. It contains stuff on math you will NEVER find in any other book and it directs you to the college board blue book so that you practice concepts with real questions from the test maker.

Do not get Princeton Review. Their Critical Reading questions do not even resemble Collegeboard’s.

How about AMSCO’s CR/Writing prep book?
