What scholarships can I apply for?

Ok so I am 19 years old, at the University of Arkansas. I am a junior this year, and I have no money. I am looking for funds for housing, food, and college tuition. I had a seizure in January that has been soaking up my funds. My GPA isnt the highest as my parents divorced this year, and my father was incarcerated and reported to jail today. I am looking for anything to help me get by. Trying to get a job right now, and for some reason with 0 income on fafsa I didnt qualify for work-study? I was put on the waiting list? If anybody can post anything to help that would be awesome.

Did you qualify for a Pell grant?

Are you taking out the maximum in Stafford loans? (If your parents apply for and can’t get a parent PLUS loan, the maximum increases to ~10k; did you take advantage of that?)

What sort of gap do you have right now?

I qualified for the pell grant and got the max. I am not maxed out on student loans (yet) but I am trying to do anything to avoid those, as I dont want to be in debt for the rest of my life… I have a 5k gap for the year. so 2.5k per semester atm.

I understand not wanting to take on more debt if you don’t have to, but if you can’t find a job, you have to. An additional 10k in debt over your remaining two years won’t be that bad, and it’s almost certainly less bad than just not graduating.

(I’m not mentioning scholarships because there aren’t any. The vast majority of available scholarships are offered by colleges, and the vast majority of the remaining ones are only offered to freshmen. The reason you don’t know of any opportunities is that they don’t really exist.)

Bump, anybody else know anything?

You may need to ask the school if you can take a year of absence due to economic hardship.

There just isn’t money out there for continuing students except at your college thru your major.

Take a year off, live with your mom, work and save your money, then finish school.

You might also end up having to transfer to a univ that you can commute to from home.

Contact your own school’s financial aid office.
