What School could I get into?

I am a Junior from Massachusetts with a weighted 3.94 gpa and a uw of 3.4. At my High School I am fifth out of 205 people. I am part of National Honor society (possible President of School Chapter), will be Captain of Football team this year. I am establishing a debate and math club at my school with a possible Engineering club to come later. I do community service a couple hours a week at my local Library. I will be getting involved with Habitat for Humanity over the summer. I have work experienced in a Restaurant, I prepped food and mainly washed dishes. SAT's i will be taking in June, and I expect to get a high 1920+.
I want to major in mechanical engineering. Would be a first generation student. Total family income is way less than $30,000. Would colleges look at uw or w gpa's more?

“Total family income is way less than $30,000.”

This means that you need serious financial aid. Most of the public institutions on your list won’t work for you because you would be an out-of-state student, and they don’t award much aid to OOS students. You need to pay a visit to the Financial Aid forum, and read up on finding the kind of aid that you will need to get in order to make college possible.

[News | Mechanical and Industrial Engineering](<a href=“Mechanical and Industrial Engineering : College of Engineering : UMass Amherst”>http://mie.umass.edu/) UMASS

UMASS would be affordable for your family, although I would guess you would like to get out of Massachusetts as many kids do like to leave their home state.

Spend time preping for SAT - If you could get CR/M to 1400 then U of Alabama has full tuition. I beleive the Engineering Dept also kicks is money ($2,000?). Look at the cost of room and board, which is NOT covered by the full tuition scholarship.

Pitt is another school that is generous to high stat OOS with up to full tuition.

Also, do not rule out the possibility of community college for 2 years to save money.

For our family, getting into a college is not the difficult huddle. Financially affording college willl be the big huddle. We have several scenarios laid out for my son that may work (Gap Year, Community College, Commuting, no loan/meets full need colleges and hopes for full tuition). I suggest you take our approach so that you cast a wide enough net for options come next spring.

Some schools look at only UW GPA, some at only weighted.
