What school is good for me?

Galaxialto,

Your stats are great and your EC’s are good too, but you have to understand that for schools like JHU and other top schools they get plenty of applicants just like you, and they can’t take all of them. Maybe they just felt you weren’t a right fit; don’t get too worked up over it, I’m sure you’ll find a great school that’s perfect for you. Apply widely, but don’t forget to apply to some safeties.

Also, I think you should learn to take constructive criticism a bit better. Everyone here is trying to give you honest advice and help you. Don’t get upset just because you aren’t hearing the answers you wanna hear. Your teacher may not have been the best, but you could have taken matters into your own hands and studied by yourself for those exams. On collegeboard they release plenty of past exams and you can find other practice tests by simply googling for them. Your AP exams weren’t the greatest, but I don’t think that they are the ONLY reason that JHU turned you down. Life goes on. Good luck.

Personally, I believe I know why JHU turned me down:
1:Moderate SAT scores (Great Math, low reading/writing)
2:AP Exams (For future colleges, I am hiding these)
3:Didn’t have subject tests at the time. (Now I do, and they are ok.)
4:Interview was meh. (possibly good)
5:Compared to other Asian men, I might not have the best scores. And I know compared to other races I don’t either, but I say Asian because CC makes me feel that I have to compete with other Asians.

You say that I could have studied for the AP exams outside of school, but why would I do that when I had an A? I honestly thought I was prepared…It was only till after I saw I wasn’t and I changed schools. For everyone who has commented to help me, thanks. For everyone who has to cut me down, no thanks. Seeing that only 1 person has actually recommended some colleges, I only thank him.

I don’t think JHU wanted to deal with your kind of attitude/immaturity. That’s my two cents :)

{Bad attitude, low SAT score, Asian, low AP scores} ==> no good school 4 u!!

I remember the first time I asked a question here on another account you wrote rude and immature things multiple times, and later claimed you were “trolling”. It looks like it came back to you.

(P.S. When you get an A in the AP class and a 2 on the AP exam, that says something about your school. I wouldn’t rely on that GPA too much.)

Yeah, I know, it wasn’t the best school. The valedictorians usually don’t get too far. Most valedictorians though only have around 6 Aps though. I’ll have 11. My attitude at the interview was a little nervous, but I was very serious and mature. I don’t think I was too impressive, and that’s the main reason i didn’t get into JHU. To be honest though, my parents had to leave their country because of war, and as smart as they are, only went to a bad university because they were illegals, so I really shouldn’t complain, because I think i’ll get into the top 30, Ivy or not. I wouldn’t say that i’m not going to a good school. Why does everyone on this site consider non-ivies as bad schools?

Why don’t you tell us? That’s what you said to me.

Where did I say that? If I said that any school outside of the ivies are bad, then I sincerely apologize. Show me the quote though.

You were trolling and being a jerk. I think it was all removed by the moderator. Anyway, I see you got what was coming to you with the JHU rejection.

Well, than I’m sorry I offended you. I told you I was just kidding, and then I’m pretty sure I gave you a sincere answer to your question. If we can get past that, then I’ll be happy. Could you please tell me what schools you think I’ll have a good shot at at, or maybe some close reaches?

actually don’t chance me, I’ll just take my luck…

Yeah, now try to convince an adcom of that. You are suppose to demonstrate that in high school. They are not going to spend $50,000 on you to find out if you can or not. Why do you think they want you to take AP, SAT Subject Tests etc if all they were interested in was your GPA?
