I’m just curious which schools are giving out iPads to their freshmen, and for those that do, if it then becomes necessary to bring a laptop, too?
I would imagine you would still want/need a laptop for any course software that isn’t an Ipad app.
CUNY Honor (Macaulay) college, students with Ivy-caliber stats.
Yes, you will still need a laptop. Also keep in mind, whatever the cost of the ipad, it will be reflected in your tuition - ex. you’re not getting a free ipad, you’re paying $300 more (or whatever) and then getting one. So you can just buy your own at any college.
Didn’t know any undergrads were doing this. I know med schools that do but obviously their class sizes are like 1/10 the size of an undergrad class.
Ohio State is doing this starting this fall 2018. All incoming freshmen are receiving new iPad Pros and Smart Keyboards (that’s about 7000 students) as part of their new Digital Flagship University initiative and partnership with Apple. That’s why I was curious if other schools were doing something similar.
My daughter’s friend goes to a small school Merrimack College. I know they give everyone ipads and keyboards but no details. My daughter sat in on a class there and said she saw a mix of ipads, macbooks and laptops in the classroom so I’m guessing people use what they have and are comfortable with. I think some majors might have specific requirements. After sophomore year they give everyone a new ipad again if we heard that part correctly.
