I am an alum and turned down Emory, Michigan, NYU and Rice for NU. Please include schools you were accepted to.

*Turned down UChicago as well.

Chose Tufts over NU and Michigan. Everyone in my high school seemed to get into Michigan this year. They must need the out of state money. Wisconsin was harder to get into than Michigan this year. NU was my second choice…

UW-Madison, U of MN, Tufts, BC, Cornell,

I chose NU over the University of Michigan, the University of Illinois, Claremont McKenna, Vanderbilt, and Tulane.

UPenn (Wharton), WashU, CMU, Cornell, Florida, and Colorado.

Yale and Stanford in large part because of distance but mainly because academics/atmosphere are comparable if not superior to the aforementioned two.

Yale, Columbia, WashU, Chicago, Rice. I was waitlisted at Harvard.

Michigan, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Case Western, Rose-Hulman, and Cincinnati.

Illinois, Miami, WashU, Penn State, Florida, waitlisted at Michigan.

McGill, Michigan, Creighton, Iowa… I feel inadequate compared to some of these other posts lol

UChicago, Columbia, Illinois, UC Berkeley

Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, U of Rochester, and Dartmouth (taken off waitlist abt five weeks later) - my son

My son picked NU over Duke, Rice, Penn, UCLA, UVA and WashU. He had a really tough time deciding. He liked the campus, the friendly students, the division I sports and the engineering program. He’s worried about the weather . . .

S turned down Berkeley, UCLA, Wash U, USC and UC Santa Barbara.

no offense and just an inquiry. but what in gods name made you choose nu over yale, stanford, harvard, columbia, or wharton? b/c prestige obviously wasn’t the deciding factor :p.

Northwestern is not just some generic school you can just pass over for a more prestigious institution and still get the same experience. It is a distinct experience and has a unique vibe that you can only feel when you visit campus. Furthermore, when the prestige differential is not that great, it’s very easy to choose Northwestern over these other schools.

It was the right choice

I’m a Kellogg Marketing PhD student. I’m pretty sure we have the most prestigious Marketing department in the world :P

I picked NU over UMich LSA Honors, UC Berkeley, Tulane Honors (lots of $$$), UConn Honors (again, lots of $$$), and Lehigh!
