I turned down Bowdoin, carleton, colgate, hamilton, vanderbilt, colby, texas, and wisconsin

Does it matter?

I would focus on the present and future. You have the opportunity to get a fine education at Amherst and are able to attend.

I am considering turning them down for the Swarthmore Philip Evans Scholarship, but I can't decide...

Anyone turn down Ivy for Amherst?

Which school is best for you - and which ones aren't - is a personal decision. That said, I turned down Yale because I decided I'd rather have a small college where I could get to know my professors easily.

I agree that when choosing schools, its more about whats right for you than what will make you look cool.

When I started applying, I wanted to go to Princeton more than anything, mostly because of the prestige, but also because I liked the undergraduate focus. When I didn't get accepted, I was pretty riled. I ended up having to choose between UC-Berkeley, Rice, Amherst and a Harvard waitlist. At that point, I was pretty sure I was going to pursue the Harvard waitlist, but as I looked closer and closer into Amherst, I found that it was everything that I loved about Princeton, with none of the stuff that I didnt.

Its small, cohesive, with a tremendous focus on the undergraduates. The professors are amazing, the sports scene is competitive, yet well integrated with academics. Along with the open curriculum and the fantastic facilities spread between the 5 colleges, it is easily one of the best undergraduate educations you could receive.

The prestige of Ivy leagues is ultimately inconsequential - most people are going to graduate school anyhow. Besides, Amherst is seen as extremely prestigious amongst intellectuals, the people that really matter.

you can still pursue the waitlist while enrolling at another school...I'm gonna still pursue my waitlists even though I'll probably be enrolling at Amherst, if for not much else except personal pride.
