Reach, Target, and Safeties. THANK YOU.

What do you think you should be aiming for? I mean you created a club that tells freshman about college for crying out loud.

ok so this is my list.
Reaches:
Ivy Leagues(Cornell, Brown, UPenn, Dartmouth)
UChicago
Northwestern
Duke
JHU
MIT
Rice
Vanderbilt
WashU St. Louis

Note: girl in my school got into Cornell with a 3.5, ok EC’s meaning mines are more “wow!-ish”.

Target:
UMaryland
Tulane
Middleburry
Boston College

Safeties:
UMBC, some other state uni’s.

the college club was more about finding ways to increase chances of admissions.
less of the actual process, but we do talk about that too.
the list above was my list, I just wanted to compare it to what others say.

Do you go to Wootton?

Nope but good guess.
It must be the quiz bowl that gave away my area.

Your EC look very good on paper, and your GPA isn’t that bad (lesser students have gotten into Ivies). I got into WUSTL with about the same level GPA and similar EC off of waitlist (phew!). However, it just seems like you listed a bunch of top 25 colleges as reaches and a bunch of top 75 colleges as matches. Do you have any idea what your rank/%ile is in your class? And what are you looking for in a school (location, size of school, type of school, type of student, what sort of social life, etc. etc.)?

Might look at Holy Cross-great science majors and great pre-med program.

location: Eastern, Southern, Midwest
size of school: medium: 5 to 10k is optimal
type of school: private preffered
type of student: smart people who can hold a conversation about anything and everything.
what sort of social life: good amount, dominant frat scene not preffered.

Not Holy Cross because of Jesuit affiliation. No I don’t hate jesuits, I feel I would be out of place there.

My school doesnt rank, but top 10-15% is a realistic percentile range for me.

just a note, I really like Cornell. Everything about the place is appealing, except the weather, but I don’t really care.

Also, would an essay about my usage of study hall to study philosphy and ethical issues be corny?

Princeton doesn’t use freshman grades. I would add that to list of reaches and look for more schools that do the same. You look really good on paper now though. Just be careful to keep your EC’s looking believable. Don’t embelish them more than necessary (think AP Scholar is an AP Scholar no matter what, right? Don’t think there’s a “with distinction” since my son also got all 5’s and his award certificate from college board says “AP Scholar” (correct me if I’m wrong and pardon me if so). Start your essays early. The essays are going to be a big factor, so do not wait to start them. Aim to have Common App. long essay done this summer and your personal statement. There’s a great essay writing book by a former Brown admissions rep --On Writing the College Application Essay by Harry Bauld. It’s a quick read and worth it’s weight in gold. Good luck!

One more to consider, Duke.

Oh, woops, see it’s on your list. Think this is a really good fit for you. Definitely go visit this summer if you can.

Wait, are these your ACTUAL stats, or what you WANT them to be next year? Because you said at the beginning of your post that you hoped for these.

they’re not my actual stats
I just wanted to see where I should look if I did accomplish this.
But it is not like im not going to accomplish any of the above, maybe 85%.

jkiwmom post #10, AP Scholar With Distinction is awarded when you have scores of 3 or higher on at least 5 AP’s.

You should probably make that a bit clearer because it seems as if people are under the impression that these are your actual scores.

And not to be rude, but some of those are extremely, extremely difficult to accomplish, and I kind of doubt you would be able to win that many scholarships or awards or opportunities that accept anywhere from less than 150 kids to less than 10 kids in the entire country.

Holy Cross and Boston College are both Jesuit schools.

But either way, I’ll chance you on these. I’d say you’ll get into all of them (judging by the kid in my school with similar stats that were just a teeny tiny bit less than these because he only had Intel, Siemens, CocaCola, National Merit, and maybe one other award/scholarship at the national level… who got into all Ivys and Top Tiers except for Harvard).

It is foolish to say someone will get into any Ivy or Ivy-level school. People tend to only get into one top tier school or basically all of them.

Yeah, but with Intel and CocaCola and Toyota and NRA and TASP and USABO, USACO, USNCO and Scholastic Writing Award and Siemens and JSHS and Davidson and everything else? Not saying that the OP did accomplish these, but if s/he could then s/he would be set for any school.

Like I said, one kid at my school was an non-alumni, moderate income Indian (so not URM nor alumni nor financial admit) had just Siemens semifinalist, Intel semifinalist, National Merit finalist, and Cocacola finalist and got into every single Ivy League and Top Tier school he applied to except for Harvard (which was all of the Ivys-- including Penn’s Fischer M&T-- and Duke and Standford and MIT, etc.) If the OP somehoe managed to achieve all of what the kid in my school did X100, s/he would almost definitely get in at every single school.

When a school has a 7% admit rate, it’s impossible to say for sure. I would probably bet he would get into several Ivies, but don’t say it’s certain :)
