I'm a freshman at UC Berkeley. Basically, I want out due to my disdain for the typical characteristics of a public school: grade deflation, poor financial aid for the middle class, overcrowding, etc, etc.

I'm thinking of applying to:
USC
Duke
Williams College
Pomona College

I'll probably aim for a Biology or a Business major, or if plausible, both.

My GPA this first semester at Cal is a 3.8. (Can someone tell me if that's considered a "good" transfer GPA?)
Extracurriculars: Research, performing arts club

High school record: unweighted GPA is roughly 3.85+ (need to recalculate, this is an estimate), weighted is 4.4+, SAT I: 2390

So basically, what chance do I have at the schools listed above, and what other private schools should I apply to for transfer? (that I may have a shot at getting into?)

Thanks all.

transfer admissions is a crapshoot for a lot of top schools

you have a solid shot at USC. duke is going to be pretty difficult, they accepted a crazy low amount of transfers last year. im not familiar with either williams or pomona.

Any idea about other liberal arts schools?
For example: Amherst, Swarthmore?

You may want to try Columbia, though I dont think they have a UG business school. [ but be careful- they, like Chicago, have the core, which requires you to take a lot of specific Liberal arts classes in a lot of subjects. So of that’s not your cup to tea, dont bother. They[ surprisingly] do accept a lot of transfers.
I think you’ll get into USC.

@menloparkmom

Columbia’s transfer rate is ~7%…

the transfer rate for the Columbia school of general studies is considerably higher- same classes, same professors.

What chances would I have at UPenn, Amherst, Swarthmore, Rice?
Looking for suggestions for schools that I have a good chance at getting into for transfer.
