What Schools Would I Have A Good Chance Transferring To?

College I Attend: SUNY Hudson Valley Community College

Major: Computer Science

Year: Will enter Sophomore this Fall.

CC GPA: 3.6; I took a literature class I gotta C in blah it was bad and I had to take literature. I hope schools will see I am pretty much an A and a few B student, and will see that a Computer Science student not doing too hot in a required literature class isn’t a big deal. Also, I will be aiming for 4.0s during my second year as usual!

ECs: I did way more in high school as I was a lot more available then, but in college I am burdened with a job working at a bakery, and I am also a full time student. However, I do a few side things for coding and open source projects so maybe this will help. I do those during my free time. I will also list my high school ECs, I hope those will help.

LoR: I do have a few of professors so far that I have done a fantastic with. One is my physics, one is my calculus, and I have my Java programming professor. I am also able to do my employer, if that is an option. So 3 or 4.

List of Courses:
Intro to Computer Science: A
College Algebra/Trig: B
English Comp 1 and 2: A’s in both
Intro to Macroeconomics: B
Literature I: C
Calc I: A
Physics I: A
Java Programming: B
American History I: A - It’s CC, you have to get your Gen Eds in there.

I would like to try to stay in the northeast. I will be applying to four SUNY schools, Albany, Stony Brook, Buffalo, and Binghamton. I just want to see where else I stand a good chance.

What’s the amount of money per year your family can afford before having to take on loans?

I take it you’re a NY resident.

Hi @philbegas,

Yes, I am a New York state resident. I would not, however, be able to part take in the Excelsior Scholarship until 2019. As this program is progressive, it increases every year until like 2020 or something.

The amount of money, I would say is around $20k. My mom would be getting a full-time job soon, so we might be able to chip in more. But as for now, its $20k.

OK so so considering the 3.6 GPA but not a ton of money that sort of puts you at second tier schools because you’ll be in search of merit scholarships. I’d consider Bryant University, Drexel University, Hofstra, Adelphi, Suffolk, TCNJ, Rutgers.

@philbegas By increase I mean income. My family makes over $100k but by 2019 it’ll be around where I fall into it.

Either way, I think you should talk to your parents and nail down how much they can actually afford to pay per year.

And if that number is in fact, around 20 thousand a year, take a look at the schools I suggested.
