Chances of Transferring?

Hey guys, I am new at posting threads. I have been reading some thread though on here, so I am very familiar with how this works. I just want to list my stats and I will list the schools I do plan on applying to as transfers.

College I Attend: SUNY Hudson Valley Community College

Major: Computer Science

Year: Will enter Sophomore this Fall.

CC GPA: 3.6; I took a literature class I gotta C in blah it was bad and I had to take literature. I hope schools will see I am pretty much an A and a few B student, and will see that a Computer Science student not doing too hot in a required literature class isn’t a big deal. Also, I will be aiming for 4.0s during my second year as usual!

ECs: I did way more in high school as I was a lot more available then, but in college I am burdened with a job working at a bakery, and I am also a full time student. However, I do a few side things for coding and open source projects so maybe this will help. I do those during my free time. I will also list my high school ECs, I hope those will help.

LoR: I do have a few of professors so far that I have done a fantastic with. One is my physics, one is my calculus, and I have my Java programming professor. I am also able to do my employer, if that is an option. So 3 or 4.

List of Courses:
Intro to Computer Science: A
College Algebra/Trig: B
English Comp 1 and 2: A’s in both
Intro to Macroeconomics: B
Literature I: C
Calc I: A
Physics I: A
Java Programming: A
American History I: A - It’s CC, you have to get your Gen Eds in there.

Schools I Plan On Applying To As Transfer:

I am able to apply to four SUNY schools for free, so why not apply to four haha
SUNY Albany
SUNY Buffalo
SUNY Binghamton
SUNY Stony Brook
RPI
Union (Again its free, and its close and is a pretty darn good STEM school for a liberal arts college.)

These are the schools I am really just why I am making this post!!!
USC (DREAM! They have a fantastic gaming program and thats what I want to get into to)
Santa Clara University
George Washington University (After research I have discovered they have a really good CS program)
Vanderbilt
Cornell (One man can dream, I doubt this will happen but as my brother told me, YOLO!)
Marquette (It’s free so why not!)

I would love to transfer to Boston University or Northeastern but I have heard they suck with transfer FA, and so few actually enroll into that school out of the many they accept. According to CollegeBoard, Northeastern accepted 1,298 transfer applications, only to have 587 enroll. So, I do not want to waste my time and money with an app to just shut it down.

I understand I listed a lot of schools as transfer, but nothing limits me haha. I hope you guys can give me your opinions, I would appreciate it so much!

Hey! I’ll put in my two cents. A few comments on your overall standing.

I think your school list needs a bit more work. I recommend you research other CS programs. There are a ton of other CS programs that you’d have a good shot at! Look into Georgia Tech, and UMich come to mind.

Assuming you boost your GPA to a 3.7-3.8 by the time you apply, you’ll be in great shape for some of the schools you’re interested in. You should pick up at least one EC. As you should know, CS @ USC is extremely competitive for transfers. Picking up an EC will only help you.

There are a few schools with notoriously bad FA across the board, HOWEVER, keep in mind that FA for transfers isn’t great.

For computer science I believe Stony Brook is the best SUNY. If you get accepted to RPI then that is your best choice by far. RPI beats all the schools on your list but again, since SUNY is free for you, Stony Brook would be the better ranked and education for Computer Science.
