what score is required for columbia....

What SAT score do you need to get into Columbia? I know you need a really good one but what is good?

at least a 2400 i would think

That's absurd. I thought you need to score 2500+ to be even considered seriously. Yes, you need to actually score beyond the score limit. They are looking for that kind of students, y'know? The ones that are exceptional and go beyond the norm, including SAT scores. Okay, maybe 2400 is good enough for URMs.

(/sarcasm)

Seriously, if you are worried about SATs just retake them and get the highest possible

700+ in all three areas.
Preferably 750+.

As has been said innumerable other times, there is no "required" score. People HAVE gotten in with 1950s, and there's a story floating around now on this very board about an athlete who got in with a 12something... or something. I'm not following it. Anyway--there is NO required score for Columbia. Just do your best. If you want to know a good score to aim for, check the CollegeBoard SAT statistics for Columbia. Try to get within the middle 50% range.

I got in with a 2150.
And I'm not an URM, legacy, or athlete.

HALLELUJAH! I'm a 2150 and not a URM, legacy or athlete!

I have a chance!!!!

Sorry, been terribly worried looking at the strong candidates on here with stellar 2300+ and such.

Hmm, I'm also a 2150, non-URM/legacy/athlete :3

There is not a "required score." No, honestly.
Say it with me.

At my most vulnerable, my moment of least confidence during college apps time, I came onto this website and posted a chance-me. I'm embarrassed to say this, but I think it should be noted. Because when I posted this chance-me, my SAT score was a 2060, and everyone told me I would never get accepted to a school like Columbia with that pitiful number. I afterwards retook SATs this November and scored a 2170. I don't know if that second score made it to CU in time...but I got accepted ED.

Really - it completely depends on your circumstances: whether English is a second language for you, you've had some home issues...or whether you are otherwise such a great applicant that lesser SAT scores can be overlooked.

SATs really are not the end-all. My guess (GUESS) is that they mostly look to weed out VERY unqualified people with 500s or less.
My best math score was still a measly 650 - but do my high 90's in advanced calculus and physics classes outweigh this? Mayyybee.

Retake 'em if you feel insecure. Can't hurt.
Anyway, good luck.

It's all very murky. From looking at literally everyone's stats who posted under the ED thread (probably close to 30 people), I'd say the following:

Yes, you can get in with a 2050, and yes you can get in with a 2150. However, most people don't. If you're opting to apply with the average applicant's SAT score (say 30 less than the average class of 2011er's, which would be 2070), then you also opt to apply with the average acceptance rate, which is 9.1% for Columbia College. While it is possible to get in with a 2050-2150, the vast majority don't.

The highest score that was deferred that I saw was a 2330 (excluding an international applicant who was deferred from SEAS with a 2380). Therefore, nothing, aside from probably a 2350+, is a sure thing. And considering that a ton of people with 2280's were deferred, better just score as high as you can.

You bothered to memorize other applicants' statistics? >_>

In the end, scores don't count as much as character, I would hope.

Erm, just to quickly respond to la montagne's mention of that athlete's "12-something"...y'all know that score was out of 1600 and not 2400, right?

definitely depends who you are (URM, asian, legacy?)
but to be considered seriously if you don't have a real hook, I'd say >2100
