What shall i do?

What are the implications in having a 'W' on ones transcript for the Dean's award etc? I am planning on petitioning for a withdrawal to avoid getting a C grade. Since it's the last day please help me decide-- a W or a C? Which is less damaging on my transcript ( i will still have a decent gpa).

Thanks a lot.

What course is it in?

A C would better. It shows that you are willing to face reality. One or two bad grades on a whole transcript doesn't raise eyebrows.

It depends on what you want to do ultimately. If this class doesn't really matter, then a W would be better. If it does, a C might be better just so that it shows that you took it.

Thank you for your replies.

I am an engineering major and the grade troubling me is in a Liberal Arts requirement that I am taking this semester- (Econ).

Do you want to go into business?

Why are you doing poorly in the course? I would think an engineer would have no trouble in an econ course.

I guess I simply did not put in enough effort for the prelims. My HW marks are pretty much above average though. If I give my best shot for the finals I wonder if I will still be able to avoid a C.

study hard for the final... GO TO OFFICE HOURS. I took econ102 and the TAs pretty much gave me the answers to the midterm by doing examples during office hours that were exactly like the problems on the midterm. I'm a bio major and hated the class and still managed to get an A by putting in a little extra time (although i barely ever went to class).
