Drop and get a W or risk getting a low grade

I'm in huge need of advice, or just someone else's opinion if you don't mind. Basically, I'm failing econ, the professor's teaching and grading do not work for me at all. I understand the concepts in the book and all, just his grading on tests are killing me. I might be able to pull of a C but I'm debating whether to drop and get a W so it won't hurt my gpa or stay in the class and risk getting a d or f. I'm definitely going to retake it, and I'm leaning towards the W unless I do really well on my quiz and midterm this week and it increases possibility of getting a C, although it will bring my gpa down. This will be my first and hopefully only W. I'm getting A's and B's in my other classes, it's just this econ classes that's really frustrating. Any thoughts?

Are you still able to drop this late in the semester? You might want to look into your schools drop dates before you decide on it.

drop date is next week on the 28th

hmmmmm… well if you do drop it, sometimes schools will allow you to retake the class later to replace a W. But i’m not too sure about that.

Well, lets look at it this way. You still have to pay for the class if you drop it and you’ll have a W. But if you were to stick with it, you could possibly get a “C” then you wouldn’t have to deal with it again.

I am unsure, however, if a W will change a GPA.

W’s aren’t known to affect GPA’s. You’ll just have to explain it for Graduate School and Transferring (if these are your goals.) It’s also not as bad if you do it at the beginning of your college career.

Econ is a really hard subject at most schools (grading and all) so a C in econ wouldn’t necessarily be seen as an “awful” thing. Take the quiz and see if you can pull a C, if not, take the W.

C is for Credit! Unless the drop in your GPA would be enough to make you lose scholarships or something like that, it doesn’t make sense to spend all the money and time taking something you already took.

I know what you mean. Econ can be really confusing

What about switching to Pass/No Pass? Is that an option?

JeSuis, I’m not sure.
Thanks all, I think I’ll stick it out for the quiz and midterm this week and see what my professor has to say.
