ok so I'm currently a sophomore at the university of Maryland and I'm looking to transfer to unc next year. i guess I just have a few starter questions because there is really just so much I want to know. is there anything I should know about the transfer process? what about housing next year (would it be best to live in freshman housing? what kind of preference would I have as a junior transfer?...). has anybody previously had problems transferring credits? and if there's anything else you feel like me or any other transfer student should know then please share. thanks

1) Much easier to transfer OOS than apply as a freshman
2) I’d live on North Campus but make an attempt to join plenty of organizations since the social aspect leaves something to be desired
3) I wouldn’t worry about the transfer credits until you get in. You should check out this link in the meantime though.

It will tell you what has been successfully transferred in the past.

I am considering living in freshman housing just because groups of friends there won’t already have been formed, so if I did that, does a junior transfer have priority to be able to chose whatever dorm they want? and what do you think about the freshman dorms?

I think that’s a natural assumption to make but a few dorms are known to be more/less social.

The newer dorms are obviously better quality apartments but the older buildings like Hinton James, Craige, Morrison, Eringhaus are much more social in my opinion. They open up to the outside so you can see/talk to a lot of people to and from class etc. These dorms (except Morrison) aren’t very nice. It’s a trade-off.

I live on North Campus as a transfer and many other transfers live in my dorm. It all depends, the hike from south campus to mid is about 20 minutes so be prepared for that! Alderman and McIver are super nice.
I had trouble with credits, but you can petition them.

I would love to know more information as well! How is the social life at UNC for a transfer student? Is everyone pretty close knit? How is the town? Also transfer applicants for Junior status is due in March correct? I would love to know as much as I can to make my decision! Thanks guys.

Did anyone have trouble getting into their classes once they transferred? Or is it pretty easy?
