What should be done

Okay i haven't prepped for the sat and there are 7 days left till i take it
on my PSAT i got 800M 460CR 470W what should i do these next 7 days to enhance my score, obviosly i need to focus in english but what specific things can i do in such short time

study vocab lists, there are a ton that you can find just by searching for "SAT vocab lists" on Google

ya but shouldn't i be focusing on other things , bc i have limited amount of time so vocab won't be that helpful as opposed to other things

well if you know what you should be focusing on...do it! lol good luck

well i kno i should focus on english but not exactly as what i should do to focus on it
should i :
- not do any cr even though i suck since its hard to improve in 7 days and only do writing
- read writing lessons from barrons and such
or
- blue book test only
HELP PLZ

Look, you've just got to practice. Analyze your practice tests, try to understand how the question was developed! I did this and I can now anticipate what questions are going to be asked.

Writing you can get up 100+ pts in a day. Just get Kaplan's prep book and read the grammar section.

The only tests you should be taking are official CB tests (blue book, online course, or released tests). Anything else sort of sucks.

should i forget about practcing cr for this june test? can anyone list any common questions asked or topics in writing such as subject verb agreement and such plz?

For CR, just make sure to understand what you read...then you should be okay.

For writing, just know the following:

Subject Verb Agreement

Pronoun Shift

Parallelism

Tense problems

Double negatives

Logic of sentences

Ambiguous pronouns

Conciseness/clarity

Word choice

Idiom problems

In addition to understanding what was given,
it is EXTREMELY important to figure our what is ASKED,
and what is MOST APPROPRIATE.
You know, sometimes more than one answers can seem correct,
and you have to be careful on those ones.
Being not able to do so resulted in 90 points drop in CR score for me.
Of course I still have to check QAS, but I'm pretty sure that's why,
because I knew exactly what I was reading at that time.
Don't be like me!

For writing section, review your grammar, Ashraf's list might help you.
Essays, most importantly, ask someone to proofread your essay, and write AT LEAST one essay a day. The more the better.
In standardized tests, nothing is better than plenty of practices.

I say buy Kaplan writing workbook. Seriously your score will go up 100+ points because the stuff in that book is on nearly every sat. After you learn the grammar in there, it's cake.

What about Reading. Writing- I think I can do it by the end of tomorrow and raise it pretty high but Whats a really good writing workbook. I need ANSWERS FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need lot of help with passage reading and ive gotten better at the sentence completions.

THANKS!.. PLEASE REPLY FAST!!!!!!!!!!

Practice with College Board's official book and do some free practice questions with explinations on their website. Other than that, there's not much to do.

I didn't too my score calculations, but I normally miss about 1/3 of the questions on writing, and I read the review section on all of writing in the blue book, then took the practice question set at the very end of it all and I only missed one question. That was a huge improvement for me, I would agree with everyone here that writing is the easiest to study for, I learned these general things and it really helped me score:

Active voice > Passive
Who versus Whom
Wordiness is bad
The simplest sentence is best as long as it doesn't change the meaning
Most of them should make sense when you say it aloud.

One seriously important concept to know is modification. For example, you can't say "While going to the store, Bob's books got wet" because the phrase "while going to the store" should modify Bob and not Bob's books. This appears all the time on improving sentences and knowing this can usually leave only 2 or 3 answer choices left.

Another one (though much less common) is pronoun shift. "You can't go to the store, although it's tuesday, if one wants a free shirt." (ignore the randomness). The original pronoun is you, but then it incorrectly switches to one. Whichever one is underlined is the answer (for identifying errors).

This is why Kaplan's book for writing is so great. There are 15 common errors for identifying sentence errors and 15 for improving sentences (and they're different) These concepts count for probobly 95% of the writing test EVERY TIME. Learn those and practice and your score should be 700+

Does anyone have a chart of the curves for getting certain SAT scores (in terms of how many you can miss.)

Also, if you get an 8 on your essay, what does it take for a 700, or if you get a 10 what does it take for a 700? Does anyone know how the essay is factored into your score?

An 8 essay to a score of 700 is about a 44/49 MC. This is minus 4 questions. It's about a 40 or 41 for an 11 essay so about 7 questions wrong. It depends on the test but this is roughly what to expect.

Thanks Stix2400.

I have the workbook and Ive started working on it. ive gotta say: its by far the best Ive worked with for strategies.

I think writing is learning strategies and basically IDENTIFYING whats wrong. I hope its good for improving sentences and improving paragraphs.

anyways: i can raise it from mid 600's to 750 + easily. Im planning on put the effort into it anyway.

Improving paragraphs is pretty easy (mostly common sense) and yes it is very good for improving sentences.
