What should be my major and focus in college?

Hello

I am a senior in highschool

I was just about set on majoring in engineering, but then I started hearing about how hard the enginnering major is, and how I won't really have time for anything else except studying. I like math and do all right in it, but don't excel at it. I am like a B+ AP Calc student.

I would really like to do a lot of music in college, whether it be getting a major or minor or just doing extracurricular activities like glee club and joining bands, and travel with them to competitions like the ICCA. But it seems if I go into engineering I just won't be able to.

My SAT scores
Math 660 writing 630 reading 570

act scores
Math 31 Reading 32 English 27 SCI 23 and yes I am retaking both.

AP scores
5 AP Chem
4 AP History

GPA 3.884
class rank 17/114

I am a state level singer/piano player/guitar player. (all-state competitions)

So my question is, is there any way I can combine my academic/music skills in college? I've heard of like music business majors and music therapy majors, but after some research they seem boring(and don't make that much money). It's just been burning at my brain. Could I do a double major or something? What kind of majors are open to an all-around math and science and music students?

thanks in advance

Iowa State offers a minor in Music Technology.

You might consider pairing that with a business major in MIS. MIS has a 100% employment rate at graduation but it s not as math heavy as engineering or CS.

If you are interested in engineering, then I think you should pursue that. You can take music classes as part of fulfilling the humanities/arts requirements of your engineering degree. Yes, engineering is hard but it is also rewarding. Once you get used to the workload you will find time to participate in music activities on campus. Most engineering students have some activities they pursue in their spare time.
Music technology programs - there are lots of students who love music who are pursuing these degrees and I wonder if there are enough job openings in the music industry to handle them all. Investigate it though if it interests you.

Music is not exactly an “easy” major either.

Would you find designing things with math and science to be something interesting? That points to engineering.

If you like math, then there is always majoring in math. However, job prospects heavily lean toward financial and actuarial areas.

Double major or major/minor is possible, depending on the number of courses required for each major or minor. However, engineering and music typically have a lot of requirements, making it more difficult to add a second major to them.

Don’t think too much about what your major is going in (However I’d pick engineering for now, I’ll explain why in a second). Most people change their minds at least once during college, so you may not even stay in whatever major you’re in.

Now for practical advice, I would probably put engineering on the app (unless the engineering school has harder admission requirements), because if you get in and start with your engineering pre-reqs, if you switch to something else, it will probably have less pre-reqs. If you started with something else, then you’d be struggling to make up pre-reqs.
