What should I check out on the tour?

I will be going to university of Cincinnati for a campus tour in a few weeks and was looking for some things to do on and off campus… We will have the day as the tour ends at like 4. Is there anything specific we should check out on campus? What are some cool places to eat around the college? What should I expect on the tour? It’s somewhat of a far drive so we want to see a lot of cool stuff while we’re there. Any info would be great! Thanks

Check out the Clifton Gaslight District (Corner of Clifton and Ludlow). It’s a nice area near the University that many visitors miss. It features a Grater’s Ice Cream, Dewey’s pizza, and a Skyline Chili. A new kroger is under construction at the corner of Calhoun and Jefferson, that is in an ideal location to serve the many student’s who live nearby, and on campus. Some parts of the area are a bit seedy, but you get that in many urban-based college environments. My daughter is beginning her Junior year in the fall, and she’s always felt safe. Just don’t go wandering around at 2 in the morning while texting, and you’ll be fine. There’s also the UC Nightride service that will pick you up if you need a ride late at night.

The Short Vine area a block or two east of campus is really coming back with a bunch of recent restaurant additions, and housing geared to both students and professionals that live in the area. The true strip for UC is Calhoun, bordering the university on the south. That’s where most students go when eating/socializing off campus.

To the west of campus are the Fraternities/Sororities and the UC-owned Stratford student housing complex. Enjoy the visit and the Amazing UC Architecture.

go down by the waterfront (near the ballpark). amazing belgian waffle place, the zoo is nice too. on calhoun there is a great restaurant (forgot the name of it) that serves all kinds of mac and cheese dishes. like balthezar said…don’t go walking around at night. the marriott is really nice if you are looking for a hotel and they have a shuttle that takes you to campus. and of course the campus bookstore to buy all your UC stuff.

I’m really late to the party, but I agree – the Kingsgate Marriot is nice, and so is the Hampton Inn on Vine St. Our last couple of bookings, though, they were both filled – so we ended up at different hotels out in Blue Ash, which isn’t that far from campus.

But I agree with both @Balthezar and @daapmom – good recommendations.

I grew up not far from Cincinnati, went to school there, and have been visiting the last couple of years because my son decided to go there. IT’s been fun reacquainting myself with the old familiar places, and also seeing the new(er) changes to campus.

how did you like your visit?
