Hey guys, I am a senior in my last semester at School B, a top 15 private university. I transferred after my sophomore year from school A. School A has great international prestige, and given that most of my family is international, this was important to me and something that I gave up on when I transferred, but I still decided to go ahead because I was unhappy at School A, wanted to take advantage of opportunities at School B, and also it was ahead and national rankings. I spent the 2017-2018 year at School B, and it was ok. I got really involved, have two leadership positions in prominent campus clubs, and from the outside I do looked like I killed it and did amazing. I can definitely say the transfer was worth it, because I was inclined to get involved and met some good people that will be lifelong friends, as well as a variety of acquintaces that will be good to have in my network. However, School A is very flexible in allowing students to come back and I realized that I could graduate in only one semester in the fall itself if I went back for the 2018-2019 year, and to be honest I’m really over school and just want to be done, so that option was something I was really considering.
But then I decided to stay at School B for the first semester. Now again its the start of the second semester and I need 7 classes to graduate, which I can do, but it will be very stressful and I also have to pay a little extra, for a total of 38k this semester. My parents can afford it, but still, it’s a lot. I’m also just not that happy here anymore. It’s my senior year and my two closest friends here are abroad. An alternative is to go back to School A where I only need 3 classes to graduate, I have spoken with an academic advisor there to verify this. All these classes are available in a 6 week summer session, which will only cost 10k. The summer session ends in early July, so I’m only delaying graduation by a month and a half. I already have a job and start it in July so it works out perfect. Besides money and internal prestige, another reason I’m considering this is because I want some time off, and if i go back to School A I can take this semester off. I start working in consulting in July so I will only get one month off if I stay at School B, but I really want more time off so I can explore some other interests and potential long-term career plans for after my stint with consulting. But there’s also the fact about keeping one’s commitments and not always chasing something else. I’m sorry I know this is a lot, but what do you guys think? Also I now have family near School A so won’t be nearly as miserable.
This isn’t something anyone else can really help add to your decision making. To me it seems very disruptive to go back to the other school but then again, if you can simply graduate after a semester maybe it’s worth it. You’ve outlined all the variables I can think could impact so at this point, it’s what you want to do-and I don’t think outside input will add much.
Would not graduating from school B impact your job offer?
That’s my question as well: would graduating from a different school impact your job offer? Would graduating later than May impact it?
Many schools have a policy that the last x amount of credits need to come from them even if you have enough credits from there earlier so I would double check that.
@momofsenior1 @RoaringMice I emailed them a few days ago, and heard back today that they’re fine with it
