What should I do? ( I'm junior)

Well, I am currently junior.. and I was going to apply ED to CMU..
but I don't know if I'm taking a huge risk.
cuz, if i apply ED to CMU, I cannot apply to any UCs, and Cal Polys,
since the rule of the ED is you cannot apply to any other school until you
know the result, but like, what if I don't get in? UCs and Cal Polys applications
are due on November or October.. and the ED results come out on December..
And I am not confident bout me getting into CMU..
well.. Im still working on my SATI, and imma take SAT II Physics, and SAT II Math II C, and even though i ace SAT II, i don know if I can get like 2200 on SAT... (2200 seemed like standard for me since my GPA is like *****)
My GPA sux... I slacked off and took so many AP classes, without thinking,,
I thought all the colleges would take weighted.
but I guess not. My unweighted GPA is like 3.28...
I did so bad.. I got C on AP chem(soph) another C in precalc (during summer), and got Bs in every math classes ive been taking..
Well this year has been good so far.
I got
AP Physics C...A
Ap Calc AB....A
AP Art... A
Engl 3 H... A
PE.. A(so lame.. i shouldve just stayed in golf)
Engineering.. A
US Hist... B

but it seems like everyone who got into CMU is Strt A student..
gah.. My friends told me to go to SLO, since they have good Arch program

Well.. does EC helps lots?
I was like so stupid.. I did so many piano things, and community services..
I shouldve just sat on my desk and study while i did those.. gah!!
I got
Congress man Award for Community service
Piano awards...
awards..
Piano CM lvel 10
Korean Drum performance in Kodak theater
Solar Boat
Shell Eco Marathon(something in engineering)

I dont know what to do!!!
like I really wanna go to CMU
It has good Arch program, and it seemed more open to world than
any schools in CA.

I believe that you can apply to other schools, you just have to withdraw your applications if you are accepted to CMU.

Don't apply to CMU ED if money is an issue - you can't compare financial aid packages, although they do agree to meet 100% of need, as they define it (which might not be what you want it to be).

Apply to CSU and UCs before you send in your CMU application.

(CMU is great so I hope you can get in and afford it.)

thx.. well.. money won't be issue, cuz im not elligible for financial aid.
I have this weird visa, and to get green card it takes bout 5 years.
I just wanna know if I can get into CMU..
cuz I REALLY REALLY wanna get in there....
gah..
well. thank you so much for the information. I really didn know that..

I don't think you look like that bad of an applicant to CMU. I got in with A-/B+ averages in most of my classes. They also care about ECs, which it looks like you have plenty of, so I'd say you have decent chances.

I think you're just being intimidated by a lot of the people that are posting here. Sometimes I wonder if there's a bit of exaggeration that goes into a lot of posts so people don't feel as bad about how they're doing.

If you are applying to architecture school your portfolio will count for a lot too. As others have said you can apply to as many other schools as you like, you'll just need to withdraw applications if you are accepted to CMU. I'm not that up on the latest in architecture schools in CA, but in addition to SLO, look at USC and SCIArch.

So... let me say a few things.

You seem to be taking the hardest classes at your school, you know, like PE :p , so GPA isn't too important as long as you're not a total screw-up. Maybe your school does weighted GPAs? C's look bad, but they're not going to finish you. CMU will look at how challenging you high school is; they have lots of data on many high schools.

Architecture students at CMU don't need math. I'm not kidding. Archy calc hardly gets past u-substitution. (I guess I should point out that many majors have their own versions of some classes, for example, there are several different versions of calc, for social science majors, engineers, math majors, etc, as well as different versions of physics and just about everything else.)

If you can actually "ace" a couple SATII's... say 770+, you're in very good shape. 2200 is a good target for SAT.

Are you SURE you want to do architecture? It is a very one-track major that will take 5 years to do, not just 4. Switching after 1 year will put you behind for other majors. It is also a lot of work, so you must be certain you want to do this. Consider other possible majors at CMU and apply to multiple schools when the time comes.

You can do many things to improve your chances at admission. First, you can do CMU's Pre-college program over the summer. I understand that most kids who do well in pre-college (I don't think there's much work anyway) get admitted. Also, while you're there over the summer, you should get an admissions interview. I had fun talking about movies and random stuff with the admissions councilor (as if they can't look your GPA up - no point in talking about it during an interview). I guess early decision could increase your chances too, but I don't believe in ED, so I didn't do it.

I'm a sophomore in ECE.
