What should I do? Planning to transfer...

Hey everyone!

I'm an international student starting my freshman year at a small/no-name 4-year college in NYC (won't get into it, but I got here due to strange circumstances). My intended major is Marketing. I really want to transfer into a bigger/better university like NYU (This is just an example. I am aware of how difficult it is getting into Stern, I’ve done my research, so please don’t go there). I got great grades in high school, I’m getting awesome grades now, I’m getting involved in clubs and organizations, doing some community service, etc.

I know universities take in account the university you are transferring from, and that brings me to my questions: Should I transfer to another university with better stats before applying to my dream universities or should I just stay in this university and work on standing out? If you say I should transfer to another university first, would it be a bad idea to wait and transfer sophomore year instead of second-semester freshman?

I’ve done my research, but do you have any suggestions on good-reputation universities I should take a look at? (to transfer before I try transferring to one of my dream universities)

I really hope someone can give me some advice, ideas and suggestions.

Thank you!
