What should I do?

In eighth grade, I took Algebra 1, which is considered a high school class at my school(I go to a small school that combines middle and high schools). I was in no way ready for the class, I had never even seen an equation before. I failed the class, retook it in ninth grade, and passed that year. Last year(I am a senior now) my guidance counselor handed me a copy of my unofficial transcript with that one eighth grade class crossed off and said that it could be removed. But this year, I received a new copy of my transcript and the F is still there. Not only that, but it is the very first thing you see on my transcript, and I received a GPA of zero for that year.

I am in no way a bad student. I struggled with focus as a freshman, and I got a GPA of 2.3 in 9th grade. Sophomore year I got a 4.0. Junior year I got a 4.4. I don’t want colleges to think I’m a bad student because of that one F in middle school. Is it possible to get that removed? I do not know if it is being calculated into my GPA.

Thanks!

Wow my school is the same way! Middle and high school is combined and I took Algebra 1 as an eighth grader also!

Really it shouldn’t matter because that was just middle school. Your new grade when you retook it in 9th grade should have overrode it. Plus you showed an upward trend though out your high school career, which colleges like to see. Curious as to how you went from a 2.3 to 4.0 GPA in just 1 year though…

No one here can answer this. Go see your GC again.

Go see your gc and indicate it’s not been removed from your transcript yet. With grade forgiveness etc, this grade shouldn’t appear on your transcript.

Ask your GC. Colleges like to see an upward trend, though, & that’s definitely one!

They want to focus on who you are currently. You certainly have demonstrated improvement from a 2.3 to a 4.4, and that’s the student you are now. They will not care what you did in middle school as they see it as the years where you’re still young and trying to figure stuff out.

My cumulative GPA is only 3.5 due to bad grades freshman year. The 4.0 and 4.4 are my GPA from just sophomore and junior year, respectively.
