Hello I have learned that i was rejected from Cockrell for Mechanical Engineering (first choice) but now they are offering Mathematics and Physics which I can see myself attending. A question I had was if everyone got offered these majors? Also I don’t see anything about PACE or CAP on the MyStatus page. I am planning to apply to UTA for Mechanical Engineering, but I really want to attend UT Austin. Should I just wait until the 26th and accept one of the majors and then transfer internally within a year or just go to UTA? Otherwise should I try to make an appeal. I have pretty good stats other than my SAT/ ACT score and I thought that if i didn’t get into Mechanical I would get into Electrical (second choice) however it doesn’t say anything about second choices on MyStatus. If anyone could provide any help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
Bump
You did not get offered PACE or CAP because you got admitted. Those programs put you in a worse spot than you are now.
Appeal is a long shot unless there is some type of mistake.
Internal transfer into Cockrell is possible but tough. See link below.
UTA is a great engineering school.

You could still apply to UT Dallas for MechE.
So what would be the best course of action for me? I have a lot of questions regarding how accepting a major works on February 26? Can I accept a major and still not accept enrollment until May 1 or does that mean I am definitely going to Austin. Also if I did accept one of the majors offered to me could I possibly attempt to have a major change into engineering or is that not possible? I am currently thinking about going to UT Arlington or Dallas, but i do not know which would be better in their engineering program. If anyone could give me some insight that might help me I would really appreciate it.
@BillyLu. I do not know the UT Arlington campus or programs at all but I am very familiar with UT Dallas. What I know is their facilities are brand new. The dorms are some of the best I’ve ever seen. Their accepted SAT scores are about equal to UT and better than A&M - in otherwords a lot of smart kids. It is smaller that UT Arlington which I think is about 29000. I think UTD is about 24000 with about 16000 undergrad. When we have gone up there, we have found they give us a lot of individual attention and my DD is seriously considering going there even though she was accepted to UT in CS. She likes the feel of a smaller school and the additional flexibility - she may want to minor in visual art. UTD is not talked about much on this thread because it is not part of the CAP program but I do believe the school is ranked 140 nationally with a weak humanity program. Its strength is engineering, CS (in engineering), business, art and technology, and cognitive sciences/therapies.
Items that UTD does not have that might be important to you are no big sports, small greek system, and no bars across the street. People still consider it a commuter school which is probably somewhat true. A lot of kids are from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area especially Plano. To improve that situation, I believe there is housing for 6000 students on campus and they are building a drag across the street from the dorms. The school is in a suburb but there is lots to do and cars are welcome. We found a Torchy’s Tacos across the street and an Alamo Moviehouse within 5 min. They do give you a DART pass so you can explore Dallas/FT Worth on the weekends. I hear downtown is very popular. If possible you should go tour it. I highly recommend the school.
Does anyone have any information about how accepting a major on February 26 works exactly?
Have you called admissions? They can tell you how that works and answer your questions about whether it is a commitment to enroll.
