Ok so I graduated a month ago with a BA in psychology. I was fortunate enough to land an entry level job in my field exactly a month after my graduation. The thing is I still have one more class to complete to officially get my diploma which I am already registered to take online next month. On my resume, on the job application and during the phone interview I stated that I did have a bachelors degree and on my job offer letter, I was told I would have to provide my highest educational level on the first day of work. How should I tackle this issue ? I was thinking of calling the job tomorrow and letting them know that all I have is the fake diploma that was given during graduation and that my official diploma would be given in august after I completed my final class online. Do you think they would give me the benefit of the doubt since it’s only one class and it’s online? I don’t believe I lied by saying I have bachelors degree but what do you guys think ? What steps should I take to solve this issue ?
Uhmmm, you did lie. You don’t have the degree you said you had. Most likely it won’t be a problem, but they’d be totally justified to rescind your offer. I’d call HR and explain what the situation is. Be prepared to take your lumps though.
