What should I do

My class and the 10th grade at my school are planning a mjor trip to Israel this May. We might be going and that is a big might since we've been pretty bad about fundraising and a lot of kids in my class do not really care whether we go or not. Also, I may not go if I decide to go on a certain summer program (see my thread in the "summer programs" thread). Anyways, if I do have the option of going there is an issue: AP conflicts. I only take one official AP class but would also like to do ind. study for 6 other APs and some of those fall on dates that are after we've left; the late test dates fall within the time of our trip so those are also not doable.
Here are the APs I hope to take:
US Govt - taking the class online
Comp Govt
Euro
Human Geo
Econ: Macro/Micro
Psych

If I took the APs I guess I'd have to stay behind. If faced with this decision what would you do?

If you think you have an honest chance of getting 5's on them and they're gonna count, do them. College credit >>> Israel. Then take your money and go somewhere cool.

Having both sat for the Human Geo AP and been to Israel, I would definitely say that Israel trumps a 3 hour test. Going to Israel was the most fun I've ever had. I have to disagree with JCoveney; missing a trip like this take exams is so not worth it. Especially because you'd have to be insane to do the amount of work necessary to do well on 6 exams that you self-study for. (Not to mention that many colleges won't give you credit for AP scores anyway.)

In conclusion: You're young. Enjoy life. Not everything is about getting good grades on tests. And to be honest, a trip to Israel where you really learn about the language, culture and history is probably more appealing to a college admissions committee than a 5 on an AP.

Depends on where you're applying, chicken.

You can take a trip any time. College credit is priceless.

I'm surprised that your school would take you to Israel during the AP weeks. My school has a Poland/Israel trip for seniors, but it's after AP's, so nobody has to choose.

Honestly, I think that's a really tough choice to make, but maybe you could talk to collegeboard about it, and it won't have to be a choice. Maybe you could take the AP tests in Israel, or earlier...? Or even later. Talk to them and see what happens. If they don't let you change the dates, and you're a senior, then I'd take the AP's, and if you're a junior, I'd go on the Israel trip.

The senior Israel trip is really special. It's not just a regular trip. It's so much more than that, and I don't think that I could really explain why. It's something that kids who (cough suffer throughcough) go to Jewish schools just get. It's something that sticks with you for the rest of your life. And it's not like we're cab drivers or anything. We're not people whose lives end after high school. And still, this trip amounts, sometimes, to more than all four years of high school combined does.

Purpoise, it sounds like you're putting alot of words into his mouth.

And even then, my answer remains.

College credit is divine!

this is not a senior trip. and purpoisepal, i am not surprised that you are surprised about our school's lovely idea to make the trip during ap week. uch. and they want to do their own version of march of the living. except we'd go to israel and then to europe. how f***ed up is that?!

Oh if it's not the senior trip, then it's not really as meaningful. And yea- your school's slightly messed up for that...

And don't you have to be 18 to do march of the living to begin with??!

JCoveney- these are my words. at my school, we have a senior poland/israel trip and I'm saying that at my school, it's really an experience of a lifetime.
