what should i do...

I'm a junior and I'm applying to:

U of Chicago
U of Michigan
UW-Madison
Northwestern

and maybe Brandeis/Tufts

I'm planning on majoring in Economics (w/ either double major or minor in Poli Sci).

I know for sure that U of Chicago is my #1 choice. However, Northwestern offers Early Decision opposed to U of Chicago's Early Action. So there's a higher chance that I'd get accepted to NU if I applied that way.

But if I also got accepted to U of Chicago, I'd be really upset I couldn't go there.

What do you guys suggest I do?

dont apply ED unless you know you want to attend...

haha thats the dilemma, i dont know if its worth getting accepted and going to if it means i could be passing up the chance for chicago.

Okay, easy answer. NU isn't your top choice? Don't apply ED. It doesn't matter if your chances are going to be higher for ED or whatever, because ultimately if you'd rather be going somewhere else, you don't want to be getting yourself into a binding commitment.

I guess you're right. It's just that I'll feel like a fool if I end up getting into neither U of C or Northwestern.

getting hung up on "what could have been" is bad. if you don't get into U of C or NU, then take it with a grain of salt, and just realize that all it means is that there's somewher else for you. Not to mention, you can still try transfer apping there

You don't have a better chance ED at Northwestern over EA at Chicago anyway. If anything, Chicago's rate is actually higher (I think). As others have said, why make a binding commitment if it is not your first choice?

Yeah, I've pretty much decided not to apply ED at NU. I'd really rather keep my options open.
