I need a laptop for college and I in a dilemma whether a should get the New 13" Macbook Pro 2.53ghz/250gb or the old 15" Macbook Pro 2.66ghz/320 gb. The old 15" MBP decreased its price because of the New 15" MBP and has the same price with the New 13" MBP. The New 13"MBP has 7 hrs battery life and SD card slot while the old 15" MBP has 2 video cards, better processor and more HD space and I think it also has a better screen but it has only 4 hours of battery and I'm thinking if it's too big. I don't know which one is better the new 13" MBP(2.53ghz) or the old 15" MBP (2.66ghz). also, is the screen the same or the old 15" has a better screen?

The old macbook pro has a better video card than the new 13" pro

Would help to know what you need this for.

Unless you need the multiple video cards and the EC slot, then go with the 13". (Based on you actually asking us this, I’m 99% certain you don’t need either of those two features. Granted you didn’t mention the EC slot - which is another reason to go for the 13"!)

The .13 processor bump is negligible, and the hard drive can be cheaply upgraded when you go the BTO path, or even done on your own, if it’s absolutely necessary.

For most college students, I would think having a battery that lasts twice as long is more important than an extra video card (that probably isn’t needed), and a slight bump in processor speed (that probably isn’t noticed).

PLUS the 13" MBP will net you a free printer and iPod, plus the student discount. None of those apply to refurbs.

I need it for school work, music, and sometimes games like warcraft, etc, run windows sometimes. is the 15" really that big compared to the 13" would i have a hard time bringing it to school?

I didn’t mention size. I personally prefer a 13" laptop for portability, but I don’t think anyone will tell you a 15" isn’t portable. I find anything larger than 13" leaves too large a footprint for me to use on any surface other than a desk/table, but carrying it around isn’t all that difficult.

I would definitely go for the 13" simply because of the battery life. The extra video card and 130 MHz are unnecessary, and I think the screens are the same, just different sizes. The video card in the 13" is plenty powerful enough to run most games (except for your Crysis/Far Cry types). 13" is not bad at all, you get used to it and it’s plenty big enough for your purposes.

Any more opinions??

also, do you know what screen is better?? the new 13" MBP or the old 15" MBP??

All the screens were revised at WWDC, so in theory, the 13" has a better screen.
