What should I major not to regret my major?

I just wrote a long post about how I am unsure what to major in, but I just realized I would probably pick either computer science or chemistry. I guess I am having a dilemma ensuring myself that I will not regret my decision because I have been set on computer science until recently. How will I know I will not regret picking computer science over chemistry?

Also, I know that majors can be changed in college, but I am hoping to go to a UC and there are multiple schools depending on the major of a student. Will it even be possible for me to change my major as Chemistry is usually part of a college of letters and sciences while computer science part of a school of engineering? Also, aren’t computer science and chemistry both impacted? Will that make my chances of changing majors nearly impossible?!?

SLO’s projected acceptance rate for CS is 9% and Chemistry 16%. I would apply for CS and if you are not happy switch to Chemistry at SLO.

You can change your major at many schools but you need to read up on each school’s major change policy. Some require that you take specific course requirements with a certain GPA to change majors. Others only require a few signatures from your advisor and college dean. If you truly unsure, pick schools that do not admit by major or offer Undeclared. SLO requires you declare a major at time of your application.
