im at the point in my college search where I am curious whether or not the college coaches I have been in contact with will support me through admissions, and how they think I will fit into the team in terms of ability.( whether or not they think I’m good enough). Is it okay to ask the coaches bluntly what my situation is, and if so, any advice on how to phrase asking them? I’m looking mostly at nescacs and other similar LACs if that makes a difference. The only D1 where I am in contact with the coach is Dartmouth. Thanks in advance for any advice!
It’s great to be straightforward with the coaches you talk to. You have to realize, though, most will be looking for some reciprocity from you. If you want to know how interested they are in you, then be prepared to be honest in how interested you are in the school they represent. It may make sense to broach this with the coach of the school you are most interested in first. You can say something like, “your school x is number one on my list of schools at this point in my search. Do you think I would be an asset for your team?” Or be more direct and ask if you are the type of athlete that they support through admissions. Once you start getting some feedback, then you should get a better feel for where you stand. Good luck.
well you will get a pretty good indication in the next few weeks as the NESCAC schools start putting their list together to invite swimmers for recruiting trips in the fall
they will ask you for copies of transcripts etc before you are allowed on campus
let the coaches know you are interested in coming in for a recruiting weekend
good luck
