Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you have had any experience in the recruiting process at any of the following schools:
Amherst
Middlebury
Swarthmore
Washington University in St. Louis
Johns Hopkins
Bowdoin
Tufts
MIT
University of Chicago
NYU
Dartmouth
Georgetown
How much do coaches help here?? My times are solid, not good enough for most D1. I swim a 5:12 500, it will probably go down more very soon, 1:56 200 free, 2:14 200 fly, 4:44 400 IM, 10:37 1000 free. My ACT is a 33. Would coaches be able to just recommend me to admission offices or possibly slot at any of these schools?
NYU, Dartmouth and Gtown are D3? Talk to your coach.
If you are female, those times will make you interesting as a recruit to most of the schools you mention. You should send an email to the coach of the schools you are interested in and give them your info. The coaches at all the schools you mention will have some pull with Admissions. Some will be able to easily support a recruit with an ACT of 33. Start a conversation with some or all of the coaches and you should be able to get a lot of help.
If you are male, you may be able to swim at many of the schools you mention but probably will not be supported with Admissions. Good luck!
NYU is D3, Gtown and Dartmouth are D1 but I was looking for reach schools as well. I am female.
You have a very good chance in getting help at any one of those schools. My two boys are each swimming at two different schools on your list. They talked to many of the coaches of other schools on your list too. They both ended up at their top pick. The coaches at the NESCAC schools - Bowdoin, Middlebury, Tufts, Amherst - will be very interested in talking to you because you will score points in their conference meet. I am familiar with MIT and Washington University in St. Louis too and you should introduce yourself to the coaches there via email to get the ball rolling.
Perhaps at some point you can visit some of the schools on your list and meet with the coaches at that time. This will help determine if there is interest on both sides or not. You are in a great position, so you should get started and have fun with the process. Let us know how it goes.
I’ve know swim recruits who have wound up at Swarthmore and Williams. They were slotted.
@sooks1 There is no point speculating, just do the on-line recruiting questionnaires.
NESCAC is a great academic conference where the swimming is competitive with modest travel.
Maybe look into Emory as well.
I agree, email the coach/coaches that you are most interested in and give them your stats
Fill out online recruiting info sheet
Like others have said NESCAC is a great mix of athletics and academics
Granted I am prejudice with regards to Midd as my kid swims there but their pool is really nice compared to many on your list
Remember now is a busy time for coaches as they have conference champs so do not get discouraged if your emails are not answered right away
best of luck
My son went on an OV at Georgetown and the coach was very open about saying he had six slots for admissions for male swimmers. Probably similar for females. Unfortunately my son did not get one of the slots.
