What should my major be?

I’m going to Texas A&M and I want to be a computer science teacher for elementary/middle schools. Should I major in computer science or is there a separate teacher’s program I should be in?

You probably want CS for a few reasons:

  1. flexibility until that job is actually available to work in CS
  2. A full understanding of a subject leads to a better understanding of how to approach teaching
  3. Others I am probably not considering that others will probably list

I think you should major in CS, for the same reasons PengsPhils stated. Students (especially at the MS/HS level) could ask you all sorts of tricky questions so it is essential to have a good understanding of the topics.
