My expected cost of attendance is $31,612.00 at the University of Oregon and my mom makes about $42,000 a year, she is also in nursing school.

I really hope it won't all be in loans.

I would suggest using the financial aid calculator on the college board website. If U of oregon is a FAFSA only school, run your numbers using the federal methodology. Keep in mind that their goal is to make college affordable for their instate residents. So unless you are at the very top of the applicant pool and in line to get some serious merit money, U or Oregon does not meet 100% of your demonstrated need so there will be some serious gaps (the average aid package is 34% grant aid and 66% loans). I would suggest that you also have a finanical safety, namely one of the UMass schools where you could take advantage of being in-state.

Your mom being in school will have no bearing on your financial aid. However, your being in college may lower her EFC.

Is that $31,612 a year at U of O, edaley?

$31612 x 4 = about $128K without any financial aid

This is one very expensive degree. Of course, I know there must be a reason for your seeking out this particular school. I would suggest that call the financial aid office at the U of O and find out the amount of loans in your aid package. Then, compare the cost of the U of O to an in-state public college in Massachusetts. Decide whether the special nature of the U of O is worth incurring debt.
