What sources to use for different sections on SAT/PSAT?

Right now I have the newest version of Kaplans PSAT book and thats about it. What books should I buy for the real SAT that are the most straightfoward with the best answers/explanations?? So, Math, Reading, and Writing.. what's it going to be? Thanks!

Oh, and one more thing. Should I continue to use Kaplan's PSAT book?? I've heard that there are someparts that aren't as reliable as others. I've even heard that there are a lot of errors on one of Kaplan's books. I have the newest, 2007 Edition Kaplan PSAT book. Thanks again!

I've tried the Kaplan SAT 2400. And I realized that Kaplan stuffs are not so cool for SAT atleast. I heard too that Kaplan books aren't the best prep for the SAT. Now, u may prefer to use the Kaplan for ur PSAT but it depends on u. It's not like Kaplan is completely useless but I believe Official STudy Guide and Princeton Review r a lot better deal. Official Study Guide provides 8 Full length practice tests which I found pretty cool. And Princeton's style teaches one how to make educated guesses w/ the help of ur best buddy Joe. Those r the only two books I've really liked. U might want to try McGraw if u find their style best. SO, it depends upon one's choice. I suggest u to go to a library and check out all those books. But the ONLY book I suggest u (if u want to take practice tests) is Official Study Guide and 10RS (I know it's pretty old but Math & CR hasn't changed a lot, has it?)

Oh by the way, check website of sparknotes. They have some of the best free study materials. Those r kinda helpful.

ok thanks! Anyone else?

blue book = bible.

recently I've tried out CB SAT Online Course which is a good one too.

Mike Barret's grammatix method, haven't tried myself but have heard that the book is really strong

Blue Book, CB Online Course = practice tests/overall
Barron's Subject Workbooks = individual prep
Barron's 2400 = best tips, sort of

Thanks to all posters above =] Yeah I REALLY need to get the CB books, especially the Blue Book which unfortunately, I haven't got yet. =/ So are the Barron's Subject books the best? I've heard that they are actually harder most of the other brands out there, but I think this would work to my advantage, right?

What level does the SAT Math go up to? =/ I'm a sophomore and I don't even know this. I know it's sad. Should I just buy the CB Blue Book first? Does it contain all the information about what the SAT consists of?

What is Barrons 2400 by the way? It would be great to have someone who has used it before to describe the quality of this book indepth!

Also, does anyone know any good Reading/Writing/Grammar books? I would like one with a lot of practice problems, easy-to-follow instructions, and everything else that a good study material should have. Would Barron's be the best brand to use for these subjects also?

Last, but not least, what materials should I obtain for studying vocabulary. Should I stick with my 1000 Spark Notes flash cards and study all of them? Should I study root words/prefixes/suffixes? ----Does anyone know any material that focuses especially on roots/prefixes/suffixes?? Studying the important parts of words would help me on vocabulary right? So what other sources can I use for vocabulary?

Thanks a lot!!!! =]

That's quite a lot of questions indeed! I suggest u (as I've done many other times to other posters) to search CC a bit and u'll find answer to most of ur questions. Blue Book contains EVERYTHING u need to know. Other books teach u the strategies and their methods. SAT Math is till ALG II (well, it's actually till Geom, u'll hardly see three Alg II questions) I haven't used Barron's 2400 but I've heard of it. Go to amazon.com, u can buy it from there. Well, for CR and W, I guess any known book will do since they pretty much cover the basic stuffs. SO, go for the most available one.

Go to amazon.com and ceeae.org. They both offer great resources for choosing books. What I've narrowed my list down to:

Study guides -
1. The Official SAT Study Guide
2. Cracking the SAT, 2007 Edition
3. How to Prepare for the SAT: 2006-2007 (Barron’s) (23rd edition)
4. Barron’s SAT 2400
5. Kaplan SAT, 2007 Edition
6. Kaplan SAT 2400

Workbooks -
1. Barron’s Critical Reading Workbook for the SAT
2. Barron’s Math Workbook for the SAT
3. Barron’s Writing Workbook for the SAT
4. Kaplan SAT Critical Reading Workbook
5. Kaplan SAT Math Workbook
6. Kaplan SAT Writing Workbook

Testbooks -
1. 11 Practice Tests for the SAT and PSAT, 2007
2. Kaplan 12 Practice Tests for the SAT, 2007

In answer to your questions:

Get any official CB practice book.

For any prep book (SATI, SATII, AP, etc.), some companies are better than others for different subjects. Check Amazon.

The math section goes a bit into Advanced Algebra (Algebra II), I believe.

Barron's 2400 is a strategy book for advanced preparation. It has no practice tests. The same for Kaplan 2400.

Barron's How to Prepare for the SAT has, supposedly, the best vocab resource. Also, visit www.english-test.net -- it has SAT vocab there with lots of practice tests.

Kaplan and Barron's are both the same quality, pretty much. Princeton Review's best for tests, + CB official guide.
