xcitfan is from Montgomery Co also! His S has not chosen a major in Engeneering yet either.

My S has been very happy so far. Excited, can’t wait to get there in August. Lots of great communication with Dr. Cordes. We went to orientation the end of may, xcitfan was there too, and it was great to meet them!

Is your son another “I don’t want to go to Maryland with everyone else in my school” kid?

also, post in the state roll call…Illinois is killing MD in numbers, we need to catch up some!! LOL

My S will be a freshman this fall and is coming from Central PA.

My husband I are from Chesapeake, VA, but have lived many places (TX,KS, Germany and Ft. Rucker, AL). Have lived in PA for about 14 years now. PA is really all my S has ever known, so he is very excited to move south.

One other student from his HS is planning to attend UA, and I think they are the first from their HS to ever do so. Our guidance counselors don’t seem to know much about UA, and UA does not do much recruiting here. We haven’t even heard about any gatherings hosted by UA for admitted students in this area. What a shame…

vlines–yes, my S knew that he didn’t want to stay in-state, but he pretty much knew that he was going to UA since he was 9 or 10. When he was that age, he asked me if he needed to send UA a “letter of intent” to inform the admissions office that he was headed there when he was old enough! :)

I know the Philly area recruiter throws a get together but I imagine that might be a bit far for you to drive. Central Pa (State College area) seems to be a 3 hour drive from everywhere :-). I assume the area is a little too vast for UA to try to recruit. But maybe since your son and his friend are coming they’ll pay it some attention and see if they can get a few more out from under PSU’s nose.

casinoexec - Wouldn’t you know my son just received an e-mail form this area’s recruiter with an invite to a get together near Philly. "Central PA’ might have been misleading as we live near Harrisburg. We will have just under two hours to drive to the “meet and greet”, but it will definitely be worth it. Question: Are “meet and greets” just for the students? This may be covered in the e-mail my son received and he didn’t tell me. I should have known that UA would take care of us. :-)

The one we were invited to 3 years ago was for the entire family. In fact they encouraged the parent’s to come even if the student was unable. Glad to hear you’ll have the opportunity to attend. Roll Tide!!

BTW, UA has a very strong alumni chapter in NYC that has many functions throughout the year. I know NYC is an hour further than Philly is for you. but if you have the chance to get together with them you’ll have a great time.

vlines and casinoexec - Thanks for the info. I had my son forward me the invite and it says it is for the student and the parents. I am looking forward to attending! Would also love to attend a gathering in NYC one day. :-)

That’s some tough job she has huh? I wonder how much arm twisting they had to do to convince her to take the Hawaii territory as well. “I can’t possibly add anymore territory to my route…Oh Hawaii…well ok I’ll do it just for the good of The University but I ain’t happy about it”. :-)

I wonder what kind of degree one needs to get a job as a college recruiter? I might be able to handle flying to Hawaii once a month to “recruit”.

Illinois - far west Chicago suburbs. Son will be attending Alabama this fall as a freshman under the Presidential Scholarship. His graduating class was about 525 and he is the only one going to Alabama (although there is one Auburn bound!). I am more of a lurker than poster but have learned a lot of this board.

Welcome to UA and to the board. But please DON’T capitalize THAT word ever again. And make sure your son doesn’t catch anything from the future Branch Bovinian. A daily bath in Lysol would do him good if he comes in contact. :-)

Illinois - western suburbs. D will be a freshman this fall… premed track majoring in chemistry. I believe there’s one other student from her school attending UA. RTR!
