I like the mode of CALIFORNIA BOGW program that grants automatic fee waiver for students with financial need and whos houshold income is less than certain figure

Applicants have only to prove their lmimited financial resources and california residency then they are all accepted to be granted the fee waiver

is there any other state that support similar programs for students in need

I just remembered that you are living and studying outside the US. Are you planning to move to the US and that is why you want this information? Or are you just curious in general?

If you plan to avail yourself of these tuition type programs, you need to be a resident of the state AND you need to reside there well in advance of graduating from High School.

Florida has Bright Futures…a scholarship program for students with a certain GPA. It is not income dependent, I don’t think.

NY State has TAP. That IS income dependent but you have to be a resident of NY State to qualify for this.

In both of the above cases YOUR PARENTS would need to be residents of the states (same in CA) as residency for these awards, and instate tuition status is based on the residency of the PARENTS for undergrad students. SO…if your parents remain in the foreign country, you would NOT be eligible for either award.

I have to admit, I’m curious about this now reading this thread. Bright Futures and TAP are more similiar to Cal Grant from my understanding of them. Not BOG. BOG currently has no cap on time, units, or education level. It’s open to all California residents who meet the income requirements. Only catch is that it can only be used to waive the fees for units at a CCC.

I’ve never heard of another program similar to BOG. Just ones similar to Cal Grant.
