BtheB, I don't think anyone is really saying you can't be upset about not getting much financial aid. The statements have really been "don't get mad at the school." It's completely understandable that someone is upset if they can't afford their favorite school. It's not understandable to blame the school for not handing out more money than they can.

Well, I understand that you're bitter, but not everyone is entitled to merit scholarships, because they're MERIT based. And instead of making your decision right now, why not call your financial aid counselor and tell her what's going on? They met 100% of my financial needs (more than 1/2 of overall costs). They probably thought you didn't need financial aid..

well for my financial aid i only got like a few thousand. but my dad called in and asked for a bit more 'cause... yeah. And they gave us another few thousand! :D They're really nice. :P

Our D got only a couple of thousand dollars in aid. How much difference will it make if we call the FA office? We are going to speak to them this week. We'll see what happens.

ST2 - you misread my post I think. I was saying there were about 48 merits along the lines of Mylonis, Moog, etc. and then there were a bunch of others like Danforth and Rodrigez/Gonzalez (lol). In other words, I was totally agreeing with you, just saying I didn't know what your source was for that number you were quoting (200). Maybe you actually added them all up. Also, I wasn't offended in the least. I was just playing with ya. I also think your posts are very knowledgeable and informative.

@coloDad--A world of difference between me sending an application to a state school in April and attending WashU w/ a financial aid package I couldn't even imagine.

Definitely do it.

And definitely talk to Bill Witbrodt (the director). But before you do, definitely be prepared to state your case on why you need/deserve/want more financial aid. That can only help your situation. I've heard of people who have gotten more money by just asking but if you present a good case (if you have one), then they will probably be much more responsive.
