What to bring when meeting with disability services?

I'm planning on meeting with disability services at prospective colleges in the fall when I tour schools to look at dorms and discuss potential accommodations. I'm a very bright individual who loves learning. I believe that I have a lot to offer to society if people take the time to listen to me. I use a power wheelchair and my ipad to speak when people can't understand what I'm trying to say. I'm going to need nurses or aides to come to my dorm to assist me with daily living. I use my iPad or laptop to type essays, responses and papers. I need assistance in lab based classes. I use assistive programs to do math or dictate. I currently have to dictate chemistry, but I am hoping to find a program. I receive extra time to complete assignments and tests, since it physically takes me longer.

What should I bring if anything to these meetings? IEP??? Transcript???

I don’t think you need to bring anything as a prospective student. I would ask what types of accomodations they have provided for students with a similar profile as yours. The only areas where schools will balk are things that cost dollars so that’s where you want to have the discuss about what they have provided.

Once you’re in you will need some documentation of your disability and suggested accomodations.
