im dorming at Pentland this upcoming fall and im kind of stuck on what to buy? i was also wondering, since i went to the orientation and saw the refrigerator and the microwave, would it be stupid to take our own little fridge? or is it now allowed? please post ANYTHING you guys might think would be a great thing to take :)

-Bed sheets/Pillow.
-School supplies is available at campus store.
-Snacks/Water.
-Alarm Clock/Lamp Light if you plan on studying in your room.
-Bathroom Supplies/Flip Flops.
-Your fists encase your roommate(s) starts giving you trouble (mine did).
-Anything else you need you will realize by the end of week 1.

laundry supplies are also important if u r staying over the weekend. but like powerforce said, u will probably realize what u really need for dorm after the first week or so (i realized i didn’t need a lamp, but thats just me)

Ummm there was a link someone posted in another thread that was a pretty good checklist. Granted you didn’t need everything on there but it should give you an idea.

I’m sure you could find an extensive list online such as this one:

[Checklist for college dorm - first year of college](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Campus Life – BigFuture | College Board)

If not, here’s a few things that are helpful to bring that haven’t been mentioned:

-Hangers
-A Wastebasket (It really helps because otherwise you’ll be walking back and forth to the lounge to throw away stuff)
-A few dishes (If you’re planning on using the microwave for more than Cup o’ Noodles you might need to bring some)
-Dish Soap
-Can opener
-Ethernet cord (As far as I know they provide one for you but if it breaks you have to pay for another one, it just comes in handy)

Hope that helped!

to answer your question about the fridge, no you are not allowed to bring your own, and it would be pointless anyways. if you run out of room in your fridge, there is a larger communal fridge in each suite in pentland.

Here’s what the resident handbook (http://housing.ucr.edu/NR/rdonlyres/AAD69D88-414F-4A6C-940A-52030C26D151/0/2010HandbookFINALWEB.pdf) says:
"You will need to provide the following:
- Bedding & towels
- Desk lamp
- Wastebasket
- Alarm clock or clock radio
- Telephone
The following items are forbidden, either because they are a fire hazard, an excessive
drain on the electrical system, or both: - Microwave ovens
- Mini-refrigerator
- Toasters, toaster-ovens or indoor grills
- Space heaters"

but nobody brings a freaking corded telephone.
