Okay....so I didn't get any prestigious interns, I am looking to my whole summer of.....nothing so far.....wow the free time really frightens me....most of my friends are getting an intern from IBM or some big companies.....

so I am just seeking advice from those of you in the business world, what should I do to better prepare myself to survive in the competition to get an IB job, and meanwhile, get experience to boost my resume too? I study in USC Marshall where there is cut-throat competition. I don't want to loose on the starting line.

self study some topics, do community service, study abroad, try to get with a professor to do some research, find a small local firm to pick up some experience (even if its unpaid).

I called up a local company that I had gotten a scholarship from when I got back from college after my freshman year. It turns out the guy I had interviewed with was the head of HR at the company, and he had me starting in their research labs the following Monday.

hey spiralstar you had friends get internships at big firms coming out of freshman year? most of the kids i knew which is a very small number who got some good internships got them thru some sort of family or friend type connections..not because they were tremendously qualified..im thinking about the same thing i haven't done anything and im feeling kind of strange with nothing to do..so i made a post about if there are any summer programs..i was going to take summer classes back home where i live at the local university which is fairly high ranked but i missed the application deadline..so i dont know what to do now lol

keep looking. i'm taking a summer class at my local college and they post summer job listings almost daily on the website... that's how i got a job at a small local accounting firm working for a CPA within a week of searching :) not a big 4 firm, but MUCH better than nothing!
