I was contacted by a Yale alum for an interview, and we set plans to meet last week. The evening before the interview, however, she emailed me that she would not be able to make it, because of a family emergency. I was wondering how long interviewers have to respond to Yale regarding the interview; other students in my school have already had theirs, and I'm just a bit worried. Should I request a different interviewer...if she is unable to make a date by the "deadline" (if there is one approaching), will that be considered my fault/hurt me negatively? Of course, I sympathize with any problems that she is having, and hope that everything works out for the best...but I'm still trying to consider my own application, without being selfish or rude...? Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for reading (and hopefully, for responding!)

not having an interview will not hurt you at all...i would recommend you write her an email letting her know that family comes first and she can let you know if and when she will be available for the interview, and you will make sure you can make the date no matter what

Interview reports are due 2/15. Email her and see how things are going and ask if she can help you get a different interviewer if she is unavailable.

AdmissionsAddict:
D's interviewer contacted her two weeks ago asking for a possible time to meet. D emailed her back. But she never heard from her until three days ago, D sent her another email fearing that her last message may not reach her successfully. Still as of today, no response. D noticed that she left a phone number in her first email. She called tonight and left a message. Are we being too pushy about this interview? If the interviewer still does not respond, should we go contact the regional rep for another interviewer?

I'd hold off for a few days. Do I understand that there was an initial email, your D emailed back, and then the interviewer emailed again? The emails may be going straight to junk mail. I'd use the phone from here on out and wouldn't call again for a week. If there is still no response, then you can talk to your local ASC director and try to get reassigned or ask for help with this particular interviewer.

If Yale requests that an alum adminster an interview, and then the alum fails to conduct the interview or set up an appointment, how does Yale take this? Will the alum notify the school and explain the circumstances...and the application be processed without the interview factor? Personally, I wouldn't mind not having an interview...if there was no detrimental effect...

Look at the RD Applicants: Interview Advice thread and post any further questions there. Yale does not request that certain applicants be interviewed. Yale will not know if an interviewer fails to conduct an interview; they just know the applicant didn't do an interview. There is no detrimental effect to not having an interview.

Sorry if this is threadjacking, but I have a similar question. I applied in November and I have not yet received contact for an interview. I would like an interview. Who should I email about it?
