If my GPA is relatively low ~3.3/4 Weighted

If my SAT/AP/Subject Test/ACT scores were high

SAT: 2340
AP: 5/5

ACT: 35

Where should I apply if the above was the case [under the assumption that my EC were pretty solid]

Premier schools will most likely view the mismatch between GPA and test scores as a sign of an underachiever who does not work to the best of his abilities unless the low GPA is due to laxity in earlier high school career (bad frosh year but good later, particularly in junior year). Lots of good EC’s can balance this out, however. If you are not in the top 10% of your class you are damaged goods for most Ivy’s and other very competitive schools but you still have a chance.

I have the same problem, though my SAT’s are slightly lower (2310) and my UW GPA slightly higher (3.6). However, I’m still in the top 5% at my 1390-student school. Should that help? Because nobody at my school has even close to a perfect GPA, the teachers can grade pretty harshly.

*two people passed the AP Art History final - I got a 66 - and there was no curve. That should be a good indicator of the craziness :]

top 5% in a good school with good EC’s, recs, and essays you have good (30%-50%) at the top notch schools.

If you aren’t in a very rigourous courseload, I’d say that you present yourself as a slacker who doesn’t yet know how to work hard. That doesn’t bode well.

If you’re in a very rigourous courseload, I’d say that it shows you’re damn brilliant, but struggle with some things in school, or are still a slacker.

I’d say you’re a good fit for upper-tier state schools, perhaps with some money.

Reed is said to sometimes take a chance on a student showing evidence of a lively, perhaps brilliant mind, yet indications of undisciplined application to school work.
