I'm looking to do a major in computer engineering and i don't know what to take as my 2nd major or a minor. I want to help develop better detection technology for the military or create medical devices. I am not signing up for the military so if I work on military technology it would be a civilian job. I don't know of anything else i can do with Computer Engineering other then Robotics which i have little interest in, so if anyone can give me a good suggestion that will help me do those or an idea of other fields in Computer Engineering and what a good 2nd major or a minor would be to go with it or even just an in general one, i would really appreciate it.

I know i am coming across really unknowledgeable, but i have only been looking into this for just short of a month and I have become really interested in doing it.

you could do VLSI, embedded systems, computer architecture, etc

To add more Digital Signals, Radar Systems, Missile Systems and a lot more.
See this [Computer engineering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Computer engineering - Wikipedia)

Those seem pretty good actually. Is there a 2nd major or a minor that would be beneficial to it?

@ Ahoy91, I wanna do Radar Systems for troops more then anything honestly, Any ideas on what else would be good to take with it?

^^ Ok. You can take Electronics, Physics or Computer Science . Have you ever considered a dual degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering as well? They are very related to each other. look at the options at your university.

I’ll be pursuing “Electrical and Computer Engineering”. You should see if your univ offers this. But you will be more efficient if you pursue Electrical Engineering as your Major, since computer engineering is a branch of this major.

Thanks for the info Ahoy. My only other question is do you know if the Calculus i have to take is actually going to be used extensively in the field?

how much calc is involved really depends on the field you choose. Im not in the higher level CompE courses yet so i can’t speak for all of the fields but i’ve heard that signals involves the most math. fwiw i would recommend a minor in physics/math if you are interested in radar systems.

I second zman in this. However in COmp E you won’t have as much rigor in calc as in EE. That too in the areas of DSP (Digital Signal Processing).
