What To Major In For This Career????

I'm wondering what do I need to do in college....

I'm interested in maybe becoming a college representative or a sports/entertainment agent.

I was thinking business as a major....Is that the best way to go?

Public Relations? Communications? Business/Management?

You could probably become a rep at the college you attend, should a spot open, after volunteering at the admissions office.

if you are going the agent route, you'll probably need to end up going through law school (though Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven's character) in Entourage got his MBA from Harvard)

As for being an admissions rep, there are probably tons of ways to get involved. You can volunteer to be a tour guide on the senior visit days, get a job as a guide for campus visits that don't fall on the visit days, apply to be a New Student Orientation leader, and so on. At my school they wanted people from all different types of majors to be a part of admissions because they needed people who knew at least general information on each college to talk to prospective students (if you are an econ major you aren't going to be able to help a pre-med that much). Most of the people who ended up staying in admissions after graduation either were rejected from professional school and doing the job to fill the time off, or realized in their junior or senior year that they really liked the job and wanted to keep doing it rather than their original intended career. Since you want to go there to start off, maybe management or some sort of double major.

Business is probably a safe bet, and an internship in your more specified career field, like with a sports or entertainment management firm.

u know what..Syracuse has a great program for management and communication. It's a double major between their infamous Newhouse School of Communications and the Whitman school of business. U should look into that.

if you are going the agent route, you'll probably need to end up going through law school (though Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven's character) in Entourage got his MBA from Harvard

Ari actually has a JD from Harvard and an MBA from Michigan.

Thanks for the advice i would rather be a sports/entertainment agent instead of a college rep bc I really want to be in the sports/entertainment industry. Well I want to go to a UC school or SDSU, and I think I want to do business, communications, or psychology for undergrad, and then do a joint MBA/JD

Does this seem like a good way to go? I figure even if I cant become an agent I could become a entertainment/sports lawyer or do something in business with my 2 degrees.

Drew, I thought the episode where Josh Weinstein tries to get Vinnie to be his client (the one with Busey...awesome) Ari said something like "you know what other class I took at Harvard Business School? Business ethics."

In the Gary Busey episode he said he has a JD from Harvard and an MBA from Michigan

Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) is Vince's agent and "one of the most powerful men in Hollywood". A workaholic with a quick temper, constant sarcasm, frenetic physical presence, an undergraduate degree from Harvard, and a J.D./MBA from Michigan, Ari is one of the program's most popular characters. In particular, viewers like the fact that he has never met a racist or sexist comment he didn't like. But despite being a powerful presence at the agency (Ari singlehandedly set out to destroy a former assistant turned rival agent from trying to steal Vincent), Ari is dominated by his wife at the home, who orders her husband around. Ari and Eric are the primary influencers in Vincent's life. But it is clear that Vincent trusts and follows Eric's advice much more than he does Ari's. This makes for a tense relationship between Eric and Ari. While neither one particularly likes the other, they realize that they are in a marriage of necessity. Towards the end of season two, we discover that the agency that Ari runs is actually owned by a man named Terrance who has emerged from retirement seemingly due to his desire to replace Ari as Vincent's agent. The conflict that arises between Ari and Terrance reaches a boiling point in season two, leading to Ari's termination following the exposure of a coup de'tat being planned by Ari. Ari's character is reportedly based on the real-life Hollywood superagent Ari Emanuel, who represents such stars as Vin Diesel and Larry David, both of whom are represented on the show by the fictional Ari Gold. Ari Emanuel also once represented Jeremy Piven himself.
