What to major in???

Hi I'm new here. I'm only going to be a sophomore in high school this year so I know I have a while to go before college decisions. But I can't stop thinking about it. All my friends already know what they want to major in and I have no clue. I get average grades. Mostly 90s, the lowest last year was an 84. My best grade was in biology.

I got onto my school newspaper. If that helps any...

Some of my interests are: psychology, interior design, photography, forensic science, writing, the Internet: like social networking and blogging, design in general: I like the idea of creating something to help people, American history, travel, film.

I know it kinda jumps around a lot.

I'm a very organized person.

One of the things I hate the most is group projects. I always get stuck doing all the work.

I feel like it could be really cool to work at google or apple, but I'm not really into all that techy stuff, like I would rather design apps and devices rather than build them or help people figure out how to use them.

Also I would love to live near the beach if that makes a difference. I want to have a family. Maybe adopt and still have enough money to provide with a stable job.

So I hope that have you an idea. I know I still have time to decide but I just want to get an idea. Thanks!

Do you like Math?

Not really. It’s ok. But not my favorite.

Oh. I would have suggested Computer Science, but it takes a lot of Math to get through college. They design apps for people (which can help, lol I would be so screwed without my alarm app on my phone) and can live anywhere and since there are more jobs than people, they can get good salaries.

My mother is an interior designer who currently specializes in cabinets. Not the most glamorous, I know, but she gets to work on mansions and yachts all the time. She has had a history of picking out couches and draperies and a multitude of interior decorations for high money making people. She makes a good salary, and she only has an associate’s degree.

I would suggest Architecture for you. It sounds like a good balance of being artsy (which sounds like you) and design while helping people and getting a better salary. While architects know math, they leave most of the math up to civil engineers so they rarely deal with that.

Also I wanted to let you know it doesn’t matter in sophomore year. Very few people know what they want to do with their entire lives when they have lived less than a quarter of it. When I was a sophomore in high school, I thought I wanted to be a pharmacist. I have probably gone through five professions since that time (I am about to be a freshman in college.) It’s not important to decide on it until your sophomore year of college, but it’s good you are thinking about it early.

Thanks so much. This helped a lot. I know I have a lot of time I just wanted a vague idea.

Combining a couple of your interest, why not check out forensic psychology.

Mmmm I’ve never heard of that. I’ll have to research it.
