Is it obvious?
Help me decide. I am thinking in engineering, physics or math but I would like to take some courses on business, economy, or just something else than science. People here compares Harvey Mudd with the Ivies, is it that good? I sometimes feel comments overrate it.
A friend from Harvard told me that the reputation of Colgate is high above that of HMC. I live abroad, I don't know anything. In my country both are as unknown as colleges in latin america are for americans.
Do Harvey mudd graduates do big things after they graduate?

I would not say Colgate's "reputation" is "high above" HMC; they are very different schools. My son, who is MIT '09, was accepted at Mudd and considered it seriously. It would be a strong school for engineering, physics or math, and is in a consortium with the 4 other Claremont colleges, where students can take other humanities or business courses if they are not offered at HMC. (And these 5 schools are RIGHT ON TOP OF EACH OTHER, it's not as if you'd even have to take a bus from one to the other, you just walk across a big quad and voila!) Mudd graduates typically go on to do very well in grad schools, and are well recruited at job fairs. There is some statistic about some percentage of grads who go on to get PhDs, I believe, but I cannot locate it just now.

I am not as familiar with Colgate, so I will be happy to let someone else tell you more about that school and its opportunities. (Note that Mudd is in southern California, and Colgate is in central NY state, so the climates will be quite different. Colgate does have a series of Core classes that all students must take by the end of their sophomore year; I am not familiar with any such requirement at Mudd.)

mootmom:
About the other claremont colleges, can students on financial aid take classes there?
About the climate, I do not want it to be a factor.
Thank you for your answer.
Just for curiosity, which other schools did your son consider seriously? And why he choose MIT? (If that is not a stupid question :>)

As far as I understand it, all students at HMC can take classes at any of the consortium colleges. But someone from HMC would have more first-hand knowledge of how difficult that is to arrange for anyone.

I'll send you a PM to answer your other question.

Arranging to take a class at another college is not any harder than signing up for one at HMC. All the classes are cross-registrable and the Registrar has a list of all the classes on all of the 5-C's right there.

Ba da bing, Ba da boom.
